The situation:
I'm having a small Eidolon. The summoner has Evolution Surge Lesser. For a specific reason I want to temporarily enlarge the Eidolon. A scroll Enlarge Person is one option.
I'm now reading through the Eidolon pages - APG. p59 and stumble upon the following:
The last paragraph of the section dealing with small Eidolons says: If this choice is made refers to a small Eidolon, the Eidolon can be made Medium whenever the summoner can change the Eidolon's evolution pool (which causes it to lose these modifiers for being small).
As far as I read Evolution Surge it is doing exactly that - change the evolution pool.
I don't want to cheese here - but I could easily cast Evolution Surge Lesser - Ability increase Str + 2 and have it become medium at the same time. Off course other evolutions might apply as well / be more powerful - but at least the description of ability increase - 'an Eidolon grows larger muscles, gains faster reflexes, ...' would not go against the grain of versimilitude for the sake of cheese.
Opinions welcome.

I think the intent of the rule is to allow you to change the size of the eidolon when you level up or use an effect like Transmogrify. As far as analyzing the rules as written goes, the Lesser Evolution Surge spell says that it grants the eidolon an evolution, not that it changes the evolution pool. I guess the issue might come down to whether you think the "evolution pool" refers to how your eidolon's evolution points have been spent or whatever evolutions the eidolon has no matter how it got them.
Here's what the rules say about the "Evolution Pool". Note that they specify two times when the Summoner can change the pool. It isn't entirely clear whether this is an exhaustive list, but certainly the text doesn't say "or through the Lesser Evolution spell".
Evolution Pool: The value given in this column is the total number of points in the eidolon's evolution pool. Points from this pool can be spent on a wide variety of modifications and upgrades that add new abilities, attacks, and powers to the eidolon. Whenever the summoner gains a level, the number in this pool increases and the summoner can spend these points to change the abilities of the eidolon. These choices are not set. The summoner can change them whenever he gains a level (and through the transmogrify spell).
Now I have a question for you. Why would you choose to have a small eidolon? I guess it wouldn't be bad as a stealthy "skill monkey" to help out a Master Summoner in non-combat situations. Other than that it sounds like a self-nerf. Maybe there's something I'm missing though.

Thanks for posting the Evolution Pool. I wasn't aware of the transmogrify spell that allows a complete rebuild - but is of much higher level and takes much longer as I intend.
And yes - the question boils down if Evolution Surge Lesser I'd regarded as temp Evolution Pool + 2 allowing an extra +2 (max) evolution or temp Evoluyion Pool + free evolution (of max 2 points).
Actually / rereading transmogrify - it allows you to change all evolutions - it strictly speaking isn't changing the evolution pool and the same question would apply - off course in this case RAI might say that should be part of an eidolon rebuild.
Why do I play a small eidolon. Yes - stealth and skill monkey. It didn't wanted to play the typical summoner with a damage dealing eidolon. So far I have fun, others do the damage and I still contribute in ways that help the overall group.
And at least size and evolutions can be changed each level should I become a liability.
But I'm in a very specific situation (online game) where it would help temporarily to do something none of the damage dealers can do.
