Silver Crusade 5/5

I want to congratulate Venture-Lieutenant Eric Clingenpeel on earning his 4th star at Marmalade Dog. At least officially he will when I finish reporting the sessions. :)

Way to go, Eric!

Congrats!

He's probably still en route home, and I know Alyssa said HE was driving since he dragged her to a con and "made" her work HQ.

oooo ... is he taking my room at the 4th star forward operating base?

Thanks all. Been a fun year and a half getting here. Looking forward to the sessions to come. While it wasn't a TPK, it was fitting that I had a messy death in my 100th session.

I could, but I'd definitely have to paint the room. While I like purple, I much prefer green. :D

Hey, Eric: What advice can you pass along to the rest of us in the trenches?

Congratulations Eric! Make sure you let Dan know how sweet the grapes are at 4 Stars ;) Now, are you going to take a rest or press madly onward to your 5th?

Advice, hmm...

Try to do something to make the scenario special. Whether its having pre-drawn maps/3d terrain or pictures of the NPCs when available, do something that has a chance to catch in a player's memory and they'll hopefully remember your table.

Another thing listen to your players, both before, during, and after the game. I don't think I'm anything special, but I've got a player that seeks me out to play at my tables when he can, and the only thing I can think of that I did to gain his loyalty is when we first met, I listened to his stories after the game. I helped him with building one of his original D&D characters as a PFS character. That simple attention meant a lot to him, and in turn his appreciativeness has helped me desire to become more like the GM he tells others I am. It is sometimes the small things that makes all the difference.

@Doug: Well, I will have a couple of weeks without PFS, but after that I'm back in. Unless things derail, I should hopefully be set to possibly get my 5th star at GenCon. I've got two weekly games, one I'm pretty much the only GM (I've got a couple I've talked into GM'ing once or twice, but its mostly me) the other two of us switch between playing and GMing every 5-6 weeks. I've got once a month games, one session at a game store, two sessions with family. It is a busy schedule, but I've been doing it for the last six months, and its still as fun as when I started. I'm on guard for burn-out, but with my wife supporting me and friends willing to take the burden when its too much, I've got a good support structure to keep on keeping on.
