I have looked at the CRB and online for where it says in the CRB for what the penalties for using a ranged weapon is. From experience with my group and with 3.5, I understand that for each increment past the first there is a cumulative -2 penalty. However, it would just be nice to see those words in a Pathfinder book rather than have to read it online.
There is nothing in the index about such a basic combat situation. Did I just answer my own question or is it hidden in the text some place. Also, I would presume the same rules apply to the Gunslinger.
In the 3.5 book I found the Ranged rule under combat so I looked there in Core. On page 182 I found this:
Ranged Attacks: With a ranged weapon, you can
shoot or throw at any target that is within the weapon’s
maximum range and in line of sight. The maximum
range for a thrown weapon is f ive range increments.
For projectile weapons, it is 10 range increments. Some
ranged weapons have shorter maximum ranges, as
specified in their descriptions.
This doesn't give me the info that I easily found in the 3.5 book

Pg 144 CRB.
Range: Any attack at more than this distance is
penalized for range. Beyond this range, the attack takes
a cumulative –2 penalty for each full range increment (or
fraction thereof ) of distance to the target. For example, a
dagger (with a range of 10 feet) thrown at a target that is 25
feet away would incur a –4 penalty. A thrown weapon has
a maximum range of five range increments. A projectile
weapon can shoot to 10 range increments.
