Multiclass suggestions for Summoner

Advice

Have a class in mind to pair with it, but curious about suggestions/experiences from the community.

Summoner isn't the best class to multiclass with, but 1 level into the Dragoon fighter archetype (can't remember what it's called) is useful for the weapon and armour proficiency as well as two ride-related feats that's useful if you're using the Eidolon as a mount.

Sorcerer or bard is always a decent option too, as they run off the same spellcasting stat, although there's no specific synergy in abilities that I know of.

A dip into oracle can give some nice options and may fit in thematically with the summoner. Some of the revelations are quite useful: The Battle mystery's Skill at Arms revelation grants proficiency with all armor/shields (except tower shields) and martial weapons, the Nature mystery's Nature's Whispers revelation lets you use Cha in place of Dex for AC bonuses, etc. Plus, it gives the summoner access to healing spells.

Most people don't multiclass their Summoners, because everything the Summoner is good at is based on their Summoner level (Eidolon, spellcasting, Summon Monster, etc.).

A level of a martial class for armor/weapon proficiencies won't hurt too badly (though you cannot cast in medium/heavy armor without Arcane Spell Failure), and Monk or Paladin dips are reasonably common for Synthesist Summoners.

Heh...doesn't that apply to all classes?

It took one level of Dragoon to make my mounted Summoner really work. 2 levels of anything is pushing it...

...except that I did once make this Halfling character for fun who was a 9th level Master Summoner / 11th level Divine Hunter. His concept was that he would summon hunting 'packs' of Lantern Archons or (very rarely) Hound Archons depending on the situation and support them as an Archer. It was predicated on the idea that Lantern Archons are pretty good pets no matter what level you are, and a pack of a dozen or so of them summoned and Hasted can be a real headache for anyone, while multiple uses of Aid and overlapping Auras of Menace went a long way too. The ability to grant the Target of Opportunity feat to a host of Lantern Archons was also neat trick. The character could probably be rebuilt better as an Aasimar - either way I would take the Celestial Bloodline via Eldritch Heritage feats or some other route to get wings.

I could also see a level of Bard along with Lingering Performance and Maestro of the Society being worthwhile for a Master Summoner, I suppose.

Seconded, but ONLY if you are using your eidolon in mounted combat. Otherwise as others have stated, do not multiclass, all your reasons for being a summoner are based off your summoner level.

My suggestion is dont. 2 lvl paladin dip if you must... But don't.
