According to archetype rules, you have to "declare" all your archetypes when you take your first level in that class.
In PFS organized play, there's a campaign "house rule" that you don't have to declare an archetype until you hit the first level where something actually changes. Unfortunately for you, most rogue archetypes replace Trapfinding at level 1.

I'd allow him to if if none of the replaced class features (trapfinding, trap sense) had already been used.
