Hellboy d20

I tried searching the boards, and all I could find was that spear nut elf... I want to build Hellboy as a backup character for a game.

Teifling obviously, giving up SLAs for large limbs (one having a stony appearance). A heritage that gives a +2 to str, and a -2 to cha.

Originally I thought inquisitor, but spells should be minimal if at all. But knowledge off all things that go bump in the night is a must. Paladin was my second thought, but I'm just not feeling the lawful alignment. I'm kinda leaning toward barbarian/ ranger, but I'm up to some suggestions.

He's not holy. He's all beast. Barbarian.

How would I get enough skills or the proficiencies for all the knowledge skills ill need?

Love Hellboy all the way! There is definetly some barbarian in their. He uses his gone a lot but his aim is very sloppy a bit. He has loads of knowledge religion, planes, history. Good acrobatics, and some stealth. He also is good with gadgetry and that sort of thing.

I think some levels, possibly 4 to get superstition and witch hunter as his rage powers. If you get 6 levels, spell sunder really works with Hellboy and all that. If invulnerable rager, with fire resistance, that shows is impartiality to fire. Some inquisitor levels, maybe 2 should work to get monster lore, and other wisdom buffs. Of your DM allows guns, he needs it, no questions asked. The good Samaritan is a 4 shot revolver. Big baby, from the movie, is practically a grenade launcher, 6 shot.

What level are you now? Till what level do you expect game to go to? Any book restrictions?

Can't wait to see is.

Also, this probably needs to be in the conversion section.

I'm not sure he has that many knowledge skills. Abe does most of the research at least in the movies. Id say he's technically a half fiend but go tiefling with a high str and UMD either with a trait or class skill. Go ranger/fighter/barbarian if only there was a.version of dragon disciple for outsiders.

Grab an Undine-Rogue friend that specializes in that sort of thing (Abe Sapien).

Expect this to moved to the Conversion Forum, where it belongs.

If you've only watched the movies, probably, but if you've read the comics, Hellboy knows some stuff. Planes, religion, history all overlap in many areas. That is his main body of knowledge. Prof. Broom was huge on history and religion. Abe knows a little of everything, if not he soon will.

He can put ranks into them, sure--but there's a benefit to knowing people. The BPRD has it's perks, after all.

It's a 25 point buy, level 3 about to hit 4. As far as I know, all PFS material is legal. I want to stay away from guns personally. I'll be the front line melee meat shield for the group.

Urban Barbarian.

Urban barbarian should work as mentioned. 2 level dip into inquisitor, get a bane baldric item. Good to go. Get superstious, witch hunter, spell sunder rage powers. Headband of havoc for oomph.

Is there an equivalent in pathfinder to the old occult slayer PrC? What would be a good fav enemy for a ranger dip? The only reason I was thinking ranger was the 6 skills and access to know dungeon and religion. I think that track is a good one, but I may not be able to keep up with survival.

Here are some proposed stats and all. Traits are prehensile tail and scaled skin (fire resist), ONI-spawned for a +2 str, wis, -2 cha

Barbarian (invulnerable rager)
Str: 17 (+2)
Dex: 14
Con: 14
In: 12
Wis: 10 (+2)
Cha: 8 (-2)

Rage powers will be superstitious and which hunter for starters.

Actually, Witch Hunter Inquisitor seems fitting.

Ooooooooooo another fun character conversion...I will dot this for in the morning/afternoon

Feat wise, I'll start with imp unarmed strike and power attack. That would give him a d6 punch for having large arms, correct?

Bump

Thanks for the tips, ill keep working it on the back burner.

Dot.

If I move forward with these stats, I am looking at 5 skills per lvl. Knowledge religion, and planes can alternate each level, leaving room for climb/ swim to alternate, and finish out with perception, acrobatics, and intimidate. Maybe even alternate one of the last three for UMD just because I think it goes with the character.

Any thoughts?

I might suggest a completely different direction.

Oni-Spawn Tiefling has both the right look and the right stat modifiers.

But, I would suggest a Ranger (archetype depends on the campaign), rather then a barbarian.

Suggested 1st Level Stats (25 point build):

  • Str 17
  • Dex 13
  • Con 14
  • Int 14
  • Wis 15
  • Chr 10

Favored Enemy: Outsider (evil), Undead, or Fey. (You will want all of them, but the order you take them depends on the campaign).
Fighting Style: Two Weapon - suggest sword and cestus (or "stone fist" if permitted exchange for SLA).

Use traits to gain access to Knowledge (Planes), Knowledge (Religion) and/or Knowledge (History). Else, consider multiclassing (Inquisitor might work).

  • I had toyed with the notion of going ranger, maybe a 2lvl dip for the reasons you mentioned.

As far as fighting style, I think I'll go with unarmed and keep a large sized pistol (the Samaritan) as a back up. I won't take the proficiency because.. Well.. Lets face it, he's not that great of a shot.

    Hmmm Maybe...

Race - Oni Spawn: You could do the Prehensile tail & "Claw and Maw" replacements (You could ask for slams or just pretend you have them.) Also the large limb replacement is pretty cool.

Class - Pistol Gunslinger: with the Sword and Pistol feat. (Is having a natural attack considered weilding a weapon?)

Gear - Slap on a Armored Coat and I think you have "Anung Un Rama"

Also needs his knockoff batman utility belt. Typical Hellboy stuff. Extra shells, holy water with silver shavings/clove garlic/the works, his cross, lucky horseshoe, iodized salt, so on.

Does imp natural attack increase unarmed damage?

    Bump for above question.

My personal Hellboy build is a Tiefling Gun Tank with a pistol starting weapon.

    No.

    Improved Natural Attack (Monster)
Attacks made by one of this creature's natural attacks leave vicious wounds.
Prerequisite: Natural weapon, base attack bonus +4.
Benefit: Choose one of the creature's natural attack forms (not an unarmed strike). The damage for this natural attack increases by one step on the following list, as if the creature's size had increased by one category. Damage dice increase as follows: 1d2, 1d3, 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 2d6, 3d6, 4d6, 6d6, 8d6, 12d6.

    A weapon or attack that deals 1d10 points of damage increases as follows: 1d10, 2d8, 3d8, 4d8, 6d8, 8d8, 12d8.

Special: This feat can be taken multiple times. Each time it is taken, it applies to a different natural attack.
