I have just hit 5th level with my paladin and feel like I'm making too many posts about build for him anyway but here goes.
I've got my 5th level feat and nothing particular to spend it on as shield slam or ITWF or whatever isn't available until 6th.
So rather than going the route of Power Attack or other somesuch I was wondering what sort of feats have fun little bonuses without a ton of requirements or need to chain further.
For instance Step Up is a nice feat that allows me to mess with 5 foot steps, and is still fun if I don't chain into it further.
Anyone know other feats like that?

Protector's Strike is ok if you're confident in your AC and you think someone else needs more. Alignment Channel is pretty much garbage, though--channeling is kind of a waste for paladins--I'd always recommend Oath of Vengeance instead.
For some reason I thought that Alignment channel or something worked as channel smite, but I'd actually need both feats to add channel onto attacks.

I second extra lay on hands unless you're having trouble healing fast enough in which case greater mercy.
I'd consider sticking to power attack though. If you're planning to get shield slam you might want improved and greater bull rush (the third TWF feat offers diminishing returns so there may be space at higher levels) and those require power attack entirely apart from it being a good feat all on its own.
