Ranger Combat Style Question

Rules Questions

Core rule book says:
He can choose feats from his selected combat style, even if he does not have the normal prerequisites.

So this allows me to choose the two-handed style and pick up Pushing assault at 2nd level, even if i don't have power attack. But when you read the description of the feat.

Pushing assault:
When you hit a creature your size or smaller with a two-handed weapon attack modified by the Power Attack feat, you can choose to push the target 5 feet directly away from you instead of dealing the extra damage from Power Attack. If you score a critical hit, you can instead push the target 10 feet directly away from you. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunities, and the target must end this move in a safe space it can stand in. You choose which effect to apply after the attack roll has been made, but before the damage is rolled.

Since im not attacking with an attack modified by power attack, since i dont have it, can i still use the feat?

Dark Archive

Nope. It says you can choose to take the feat without the proficiency, but it doesn't change how the feat works.

You can't make Power Attacks if you don't get Power Attack. ;)

If you're not doing what the feat says you have to do to use it, then you can't use it.

Agreed. Sometimes skipping pre-reqs isn't all its cracked up to be, but taking power attack as a THF should be no problem
