Animal Friend and Versatile Performance

Rules Questions

Versatile Performances replace the bonus you would have in another skill with your bonus in the selected performance.

Animal Friend, in part, gives you a +4 bonus to Handle Animal for a chosen animal type.

If someone has Versatile Performance in a performance type that replaces Handle Animal and they also have Animal Friend would they keep the +4 bonus for that animal type or would it get replaced with the performance bonus?

RAW - Animal Friend adds a bonus, Versatile Performance replaces bonuses, you don't get the +4.

Common Sense - The +4 is a conditional bonus and not part of the regular Handle Animal bonus, Versatile Performance replaces your regular Handle Animal bonus and the +4 still gets added if the selected animal type is being handled.

Thoughts? Corrections? Ridicule?

The whole Versatile Performance ability falls apart when common sense is applied - it's a cool idea that was given a poor execution.
Per the rules, you do not apply any of your bonuses to Handle Animal to the check, but instead use any bonus you have to the Perform skill.

Bards got a lot of love in Pathfinder. But some of it was bad love...
