Reach weapons while riding a horse?

Rules Questions

So my question is, if you are riding a horse wielding a Glaive or Halberd, how do determine reach? Which square are you considered to be in?

Mounts in Combat: Horses, ponies, and riding dogs can serve readily as combat steeds. Mounts that do not possess combat training (see the Handle Animal skill) are frightened by combat. If you don't dismount, you must make a DC 20 Ride check each round as a move action to control such a mount. If you succeed, you can perform a standard action after the move action. If you fail, the move action becomes a full-round action, and you can't do anything else until your next turn.

Your mount acts on your initiative count as you direct it. You move at its speed, but the mount uses its action to move.

A horse (not a pony) is a Large creature and thus takes up a space 10 feet (2 squares) across. For simplicity, assume that you share your mount's space during combat.

Emphasis mine: you share the space with your mount. You can count how many squares to your attack from any square your mount occupies as you see fit. This doesn't give you greater than 10 foot reach for any given attack, per se, but it does give you more options for where to count that reach from, and does make it so you can attack a greater effective radius than a character with a reach weapon who isn't on a large mount.

I don't know if that is the RAI, but it appears clearly to the the RAW.

You share your mount's space. You can't attack any square adjacent to your mount, but can attack all squares 10 feet from its space.

Thanks guys.

So do large mounts still take up four squares? I'm using DDM minis and the bases do, but the rules quoted above look like they say a. Horse is large and occupies only two squares.

Is it:

RRRRRR
RXXXXR
RXMMXR
RXMMXR
RXXXXR
RRRRRR

Or

RRRRR
RXXXR
RXMXR
RXMXR
RXXXR
RRRRR

or something else?

This. Size and Reach templates can be found here.

Large creatures are always 2x2. Large Long creatures don't have Reach. Large Tall Creatures do. A Medium character on a Large mount would use the Large Long Template (with Reach if using a Reach weapon).

Awesome. Thanks.

Also note that Halberd is not a reach weapon.

Whoa. Ok I have to break that news to the cavalier in my game. Whoops.
