If a creature gains the aquatic subtype, what swim speed should it gain?

Rules Questions

Like the title says, if a creature (without a swim speed) were to gain the aquatic subtype, what swim speed should it gain? After all, the aquatic subtype states that "These creatures always have swim speeds".

I'm asking this because I'm building a character who is a human with Racial Heritage (Undine). With that, he qualifies for the feat Aquatic Ancestry, which gives him the Amphibious special quality, which then gives him the aquatic subtype.

I suppose one solution would be to give him a swim speed of 10, since the Aquatic Ancestry feat specifically increases your swim speed by +10... but I figured first I should figure out if the character would gain a swim speed just from the aquatic subtype.

Strictly speaking, I don't think you can apply Undine Racial Heritage. Racial Heritage states that you have to choose a humanoid race. Undine are outsiders.

If your GM allows it, I would suggest the swim speed be 30 for a full round. My reasoning behind this is that a character with 30 movement normally swims at 15 per round. With +10 speed, this would total 35 swim per round. 30 swim is easier to manage than 35, so I would set it to 30.

A swim speed of 30 would match the effect of touch of the sea.

Oh good point, it didn't even cross my mind that another 'PC' race wouldn't be compatible with the racial heritage feat. Kind of odd considering that undines are humans mixed with outsider heritage in the first place. I was kind of picturing this character as a undine with a weaker elemental bloodline.

I always found it strange that the type of a half-something changes to that of "something" instead of it counting as both, with all the (dis)advantages that brings.

It is the same for the templates, too. A half-dragon's type changes to dragon regardless of it's original type. And if you apply the half-celestial template to a dragon it changes its type to outside even though it still is half a dragon.
