Bond Item and enchantment

Rules Questions

Hello guys,

I'm running a campaign and one of my player is a wizard who took the bound item, a necklace. He decide to put a lot of enchantment to his necklace and wonder if it's ok with the rules and what it should be priced each time he put something in it.

I don't really remember what he put in it, but as I remember, he can cast multiple spell per day as a woundrous item.
Scorching Ray twice per day is one of them.

Does the price for enchanting the necklace is the usual cost x 1.5?

So, if I take example of the scorching ray... 5(CL) x 2(SL) x 1800 (command word) = 18000. He can use it only twice a day... so 18000 * .4 = 7200. This cost is multiplied by 1.5 = 10800$

Does that seems right?

Also, can he ask someone with great caster level to add a spell to his necklace? If we take the example of the scorching ray, can he ask another mage of caster level 7 to put the spell on the necklace?

Thanks Maryamne

Well if we compare it to other things it doesn't sound completely unreasonable. A generic wand of scorching ray is about 4.6k. Two of them would be 9.2k. That would be about 100 uses of minimum caster level scorching ray only limited by how many actions per day they would have. It would be easier to disarm/sunder then a necklace of course. Still it's a rough equivalent to 50 adventuring days with that necklace, assuming it gets used every adventuring day. I'm ignoring the 2 extra caster levels on the necklace just due to it not doing more then giving +2 to SR checks, which honestly for CL 5 isn't likely to help at all versus most CR appropriate opponents.

Now bump that up to a 7th level caster and you're not even close to quite so efficient. That same wand at 7th caster level bumps up in price to 10.5k gold. Now your only looking at 15120 gold for that necklace by the book math. It is less reasonable at only roughly like 70 charges or around 35 adventuring days.

Others can assist in the creation of magic items so it's said. How much they charge is up to you of course, don't go below the standard for how many castings they'll need to make from the NPC spell casting table.

Remember though that the 1.5 multiplier only affects additional enhancements. The most expensive doesn't get multiplied.
