[I'm the GM] Imagine a great homebrew campaign arc that leads the PCs into the Darklands. The PCs are in search of the drow city and after beating the information out of some Quaggoths, the beast simply says, "The white elf knows."
Next the PCs find this albino drow, an outcast and someone familiar with the way to the city.
QUESTIONS What would be the coolest path you can think of to the drow city? Shall I use the Dora-formula and make them acquire 3 things first? I've thought about a Yuan-Ti/Serpentfolk temple... I've considered a crystal cavern... and a tunnel filled with claygolems and fire elementals.... but there's a real opportunity here to make the journey spectacular, and I would like your input, please.
What would you do? What path does the albino drow provide/show the party?

I'm going for more of a "they're in the darklands now" thing.
It just feels... that after the giant mushroom forest, after seeing the purple worm, and after fighting the Quaggoths, they've gotten to an interesting point in the campaign arc. They meet up with the wizard from who's keep they teleported only to learn they've traveled 80 years into the past and about 200 miles from their previous location.
It's at this point we have the "white elf" laying on a cot in the necromancers domicile at the edge of the first darklands valley, and it seems... it seems like there should be something interesting that happens before they get to the drow city... the obvious pick is a series of tunnel encounters and such... but I'm looking for that ever-so-fantastic idea that tosses this adventure over the top. I realize I haven't spoken about the actual adventure, but my question is kind of like... "What would be the best side-trek EVAR?" before they get to the drow city?

For something different, perhaps you could have the party be near an underground water source like a lake or river. You could then have them travel through a (partially submerged) temple of Dagon and have it populated with Deep Ones; you can use the stats for them from the d20 CoC book, or if you don't have that book, use the stats for the Kua-Toa. Obviously, you would have to convert either one to PFRPG, but that's a rather simple thing to do...
