"I guess it doesn't matter to me, if it makes you guys feel better. I just wanna meet the blokes is stupid enough to put bounty on our heads." replies Dean nonchalantly
Yeah, drop them off with the authorities.
| GM DevilDoc |
Sounds good to me.. three votes is enough!
The companions load the captured thugs into the sleigh and pull it into the middle of town, where you are easily able to find some of the town watch to turn your captives over. You are now faced with a choice: Do you spend time in the elements trying to find the location of Hjort and Runa, or do you seek shelter from the elements to heal up and rest?
Current Health:
Malik
Rolvark- 6 Dmg
Shilak'ho- 3 Dmg | 4 NL, Fatigued

Can Malik heal Shilak with his kinetic healer once we get to somewhere warm (so that those NL can be healed)? Would rather take that 1NL than be down 3hp and 4NL. And better than wait 4hrs for the cold NL to heal naturally. Otherwise, I'll try to UMD my scroll of CLW. Hoping to save it for later since we only just started but if I need, I need it! :) Sigh, I hate 1st scenario characters - no PP yet to get a wand of CLW.
"Yesssss, sssoomewhere warm, jusssst for a sssecond to get some healing..." Shilak mutters this through chattering teeth.
Dean Drake
|
"Oh yeah, I hate the cold, we should rest, get somewhere nice and warm." Eyeing the chest, "heh, maybe we could also take a look inside the chest, you know, for clues"
Forgot to spend 2pp to buy the wand.
Malik Rimeclan
|
I can, but the nonlethal won't heal until you rest. Just sayin'. If we're planning on running around I have some means to warm up. Fire clay and heatstones. I have a CLW pot as well if you're feeling particularly bad.
Handing them over to the authorities sounds fine to me.
Malik shrugs. "Perhaps we should go heat up with some warm mead? We are heading for an inn, after all. If you bring me a jug, I'll guard the chest. I guess I'm used to these cold winds."
| GM DevilDoc |
Sorry for my late post tonight.
After handing the thugs off, you ask around and are directed to an inn where you may rest for a while. You move into the common room, dragging the chest with you, where a barmaid quickly fills your orders of mead and warm food. You sit and enjoy your food and warm up a bit.
Time?: 1d12 ⇒ 2
After you are sufficiently warm, your conversation returns to the task at hand. It is now two bells past noon, and there is much to do before the cold of night drives you back indoors.
All NL Dmg is now reset, and the Wand may be purchased as perr my note in Discussion.
This next part gets a little dicey. I will need a total of 5 K. Local or Diplomacy checks from the party that beat the DC. We will break this into hour "rounds" with everyone making a roll, and then I will respond with what you have. With each hour, you will also be making your cold weather checks with applicable penalties/ bonuses. If Malik decides to use his heat stone, I will rule that it can be carried on the sleigh and will warm all individuals, so no cold checks will be needed if he uses one.
Please, roll your K. Local or Diplomacy checks, one for each individual..

Dean being the scoundrel that he is, chats up the barmaid, hoping to find some useful information.

How unfortunate local is not a magus class skill, or i would have chose it over dungeoneering.
Shilak'ho Ajagar

diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Nope!
Shilak attempts to approach an street urchin on the street, knowing that they see much, but yet are not often noticed. The boy, however, catches one glimpse of Shilak's inhuman face and runs away in terror.
Pazacku

Pazacku make his way around the room, being as blunt as possible asking if they know these people.
Guinfa Mlumbi
|
Guinfa doesn't mind about the thug's fate, do as you wish with them
Also I have a CLW wand, so Malik better don't use the potion and reserve it in case our wand-activator falls
Pazacku, as a paladin you can heal us, right? At least if I let you my wand. I can use it myself, but I heard you, paladins like to "take care of the wounded" and such things so; can you use it on us?
bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 Guinfa is lying about his capabilities; he sometimes is able to use the wand. But he's a compulsive liar and doesn't like to admit any weakness
CLW on himself: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW on Rolvak: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW on Rolvak: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 If you want more ask for it
CLW on Shilak: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
[b] You have our thanks Pazacku. Also, you see what I did with the thugs leader? forcing him to attack me? I can do the same trick the next time you fail an attack, just look at my eyes. You know, "to protect the weak" and those kind of things. I want to use meek fachade on you, Pazucku, if you don't mind, so you can bait an enemy if you fail an attack
Once in the inn Guinfa moves around the tables, answer questions about why a Mwangi inhabitant is doing in Trollheim, all answers are clearly lies and, even if no one believes he's here to "cure is heat sickness" or he's going to buy some snow to bring to the elders of his tribe, the jokes allow him to ask around, without success.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Malik slams one of the heatstones against the cold-hardened ground, and puts on the sleigh. Preferably on something not flammable. During the visit at the inn, he stands next to the sleigh, drinking his mead, and asking the locals about Hjort and Runa.
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9
He doesn't mean to be menacing, but his scars and manners make it look so. People just run away.
"Well - At least they'll leave the sleigh alone."
Rolvark the Wanderer
|
Rolvark, who has always been a man of few words, hangs around the tavern and tries to make some small talk with the bartender and locals about Hjort and Runa.
diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Unfortunately, his clumsy actions and words, coupled with his intimidating size just puts people off from conversing further with him and he ends up quietly sipping his mead by the sled instead and enjoying the warmth of the heatstone.
| GM DevilDoc |
I see that the board goblins ate my post from earlier this afternoon. My apologies..
Weather checks are negated, as Malik is using a heatstone
Guinfa heals the party up, and Malik ensures their comfort in these extreme temperatures.
Dean, Are you going to get the wand of CLW?
The party begins asking around about Hjort and Runa, and the first person they are able to come across that recognizes the names is a dirty and tousled female Ulfen. Reeking of alcohol, she moves clumsily about as she slurs her words almost beyond comprehension. Arvida Bergthor claims to be writing the greatest saga the Land of the Linnorm Kings has ever known.. but she lost her notes in a drinking game a fortnight ago. "I heard about an Ulfen warrior named Hjort— don’t know his family name— who came here a while back after his entire village was slaughtered on the Arcadian coast." she says in between rants and ravings. "People say his rage toward the Pathfinder Society burns bright, as they were the ones who slaughtered his people—a people, I heard, that he was destined to be the jarl of. Those traditional warriors from the coast are serious brutes— I wouldn’t want to be one of their targets.”
Another round of checks please! 1/5

Dean will spare some time to buy a wand of CLW.
diplomacy,aid another Pazacku: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
Upon knowing his game is weak, Dean changes his strategy and follows the Paladin around, surely he could be of some use to him, and hopefully the paladin in his righteousness helps him search for a small shop to procure a wand of cure light wounds.
Shilak'ho Ajagar
|
diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Shilak attempts to approach another street urchin, this time a girl. Thankfully, this time, the child appears more curious than frightened, and listens as Shilak starts asking about Hjort and Runa.
But only after he agreed to let her pet him on his snout.
Malik Rimeclan
|
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
Malik listens to the woman speak, and grins at the thought, then retorts with a blunt "No competent chieftain would run from their tribe in need. If this man was supposed to be a leader of sorts, surely the village was a bunch of inbreds."
His comment probably turned a few heads, since nobody wishes to talk to him about the "would-be-jarl".
Rolvark the Wanderer
|
diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12
Rolvark, knowing his own limitations as a sweet talker, decides instead to entertain the girl urchin who is curiously petting Shilak'ho's snout. He lets her sit on his shoulders while she pets and examin Shilak'ho and soon enough a small crowd of urchins gather round them.
| GM DevilDoc |
This second step is easier than the first, as you quickly run across a great Ulfen female warrior who identifies herself as Kadlin Helge.. in as much a stern growl as it was language. Her craggy face seems to be frozen in a downturned scowl, and the idea of cracking a joke does not even begin to cross your mind in the presence of this woman.
She thinks for a few moments about your questions, before slowly responding. “A dark-haired Chelish woman, family name of White, has been seen about the market recently. She’s hiring mercenaries and low-life thugs for Gorum-knowswhat. If you’re looking for her to right some wrong, I’d bring a dozen more of you—she was cornered in one of the market’s darkest corners by some of Trollheim’s biggest miscreants, and just when they thought they had gotten the drop on her, she called to her god and blasted them with holy fire. She’s tough, that one, and not someone I’d mess with.”
Great job! Keep those rolls coming! 2/5 Completed

After leaving Helge, Pazacku easily finds the next person with any information for the party.
Ludin Swordsmith is an older man with a thick, welltrimmed gray beard and a shiny bald head. His body is covered in dozens of sheaths and scabbards of various sizes, all filled with various knives, daggers, and shortswords. He moves like a winter wolf through the snow, deadly and precise.
“Yeah, I know those two. They approached my friends and me and offered us a ridiculous sum to work for them. No way was I going to work for a washed-up Ulfen warrior and a foreign she-devil from the south. Hjort’s eyes told all the story I needed to know: he wasn’t doing whatever he was doing for profit—he was doing it for revenge. That business has only one path, and it leads straight to Pharasma’s ample bosom. And Runa? Well, she’s a foreigner, ain’t she?”

However, he drinks a little bit too much, and becomes a blunder of himself, embarrassing not only himself but everyone around him.

Malik attempts to blend in with the louder guests in the inn. The socially lubricated might end up giving up some information. He notices Drake, grins at the scene, and starts dragging the magus outside to get some fresh air.

Rolvark the Wanderer

diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17
Rolvark, who has since returned to the tavern, chooses to sit quietly in a corner to nurse his drink. Soon, he finds one person after another dropping by his table for a short chat. He finds it slightly ironic that the less he speaks, the more approachable he seems. Or maybe he is being mistaken for being a quest giver.

Rolvark and Malik are making inroads, but need the help of the rest of the team.
Pazacku

diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Pazacku makes his way around the tavern again, looking for any new leads. Hoping to get a break in the case eventually.

Pazacku manages to help the team find Rafarta Rannveig.. a femal Ulfen City Watch guard. She is young and strong, but extremely gruff and unapproachable. She remembers that some folks were trying to hire her cousin, but has some gruff advice as well.
“Can’t say as I remember the name of the place, but when they tried to hire my cousin, they told him to meet them at some hole in the market. You’d best do your poking around there and stop pestering the peaceful folk of Trollheim before they decide to yank your entrails out from your mouth and strangle you with them.”

Rolvark, having gotten bored after being asked for the umpteenth time on what quests are available in the town, leaves the tavern and follows Shilak'ho around town. One of them has to be the pretty face after all, and it definitely wasn't going to be the walking lizard.
Dean Drake

Guinfa follows his companions example and walks through the street instead of staying in the inn waiting for more answers to come. He tries to talk to whoever looks to spend much time in the street, beggars, drivers, guards, as they're the better fit to hear some rumors.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
| GM DevilDoc |
With one last concerted push, the party manages to at last find someone in this town that knows Hjort and Runa personally.
“Hjort and Runa, you say? Yeah, I know ‘em. I drink a beer and punch a guy in the face every night down at the Horned Helm, and they’ve been there for weeks—months maybe. I tell ya, that Hjort can throw a punch, and don’t get Runa started about religion—she’s likely to talk about it long enough it starts a fight and the way she ends fights ain’t fair, ain’t right, and just ain’t normal. Runa is a dark-haired woman from Cheliax, and Hjort is a large brute with red hair, a red beard, and a scar across his left cheek.”
8pm. We have had no fails on the weather checks due to an incredibly charitable Malik, so everyone is fresh and without any damage. Where to from here?
Dean Drake
|
Dean yawns as the group shares the discusses the information around the fireplace at the inn in efforts to stay warm. " I don't know about you guys, but surely we should take a look inside the chest? See what we're even guarding, ya'know? "
Pazacku
|
Pazacku waves Dean's suggestion off to the side,"If the content of the chest was meant for eyes they would have told us."
Looking towards to the rest of the group, "I say we go to the Horned Helm and confront these two heathens."
Dean Drake

Dean sulks at the Paladins words, and grumbles a little, knowing his words probably won't get through to him. If there was only another way.. "I guess we could..."

You really think that? Guess that means you never had work with Drendle Deng, he can sent you to a pick bottle of wine when he really wants you to investigate something.
But I'll not argue agaist you ,Pazucku, about that. Specially as you're going to protect us when you hit and when you fail, right?
Ofering again to use meek fachade on you, so you can bait an enemy if you fail an attack.
