Creating an Enchanted Journal

Advice

As part of my characters background he has an Enchanted Journal. This was given to him by someone that it could be safe to assume has access to pretty much any spell/ability.

Could anyone suggest a way in which this journal could be enchanted so that it might never be lost or destroyed, and if it was stolen it could be tracked. I could just make a spell up, but I would rather it fitted in with the world in some way.

Essentially it is a very important item and losing it would be a big issue for my character.

Thanks in advance.

Suob.

Give it intelligence with a high ego that chooses to stay with whoever is charged with protecting it, it would have a minor ritual of blood to change guardians and with that ritual it can track you with the spells held within it's self.

Depending on how much starting gold you have to spend on this thing, it could be an intelligent item with some powers that enable it to flee, hide itself, or even find and/or return to its master.

EDIT: Aww, ninja'ed. By 28 minutes? O_o It only took me 15 seconds to type that!

Thanks, folks. I shall look into that.
