What was changed / omitted and what shouldn't have been?

Rise of the Runelords

Just curious. For those of you who have played (or read) both the original RotRL and the AE, what changes were made, what scenes were removed, and what do you wish had been left alone.

I run the first half using the original and the second half using the anniversary so i can't answer your question but i really want to hear the answers from people who have played/read both.

Overall: The segues between the different chapters were tightened up, so the whole AP feels less like six partly-connected modules and more like a single story. A few extra side-quests were added. More enemy morale sections included surrender (and possible redemption) information, rather than saying "he fights to the death." More player hand-outs. Much of the art was updated-- mostly the comic-style colored pen-and-ink drawings were replaced with painted art. All sections of Runeforge were detailed.

As for actual plot changes: there weren't any that I can recall. Neither can I think of any scenes that were deleted, but many were added or expanded upon.

The BBEG at the end of the original Skinsaw Murders was scaled back quite a bit, as that encounter was a major TPK machine-- although some have complained that it was nerfed a bit too much.

Other than that, a few minor points here and there were changed a bit for various reasons. One that comes to mind is an encounter in Hook Mountain Massacre originally called "The Strange Bear" that was changed to a firepelt cougar. I think it worked better with a bear.

Since I do have both versions, I mostly run the AE, but I do compare the original to see if there are any angles that changed for the worse. So far, I haven't really seen any.
