The Exchange

I like Mephits and other TN aligned familiars. At least with them you don't have to worry about them selling your soul to the devil on the sly, or deal with pesky goody two shoes consciences whispering in your ear.

Now mephits are described as :
This small humanoid creature has thin, leathery wings, small horns, and a mischievous smile.

What exactly are mephits allowed to wear/use?

Traits: An outsider possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature's entry).
Proficient with all simple and martial weapons and any weapons mentioned in its entry.

Could a Mephit use wands/or use a hooked lance, wear a belt of giant strength, a circlet of persuasion?

Then for elementals - could they take the non proficiency penalty of -4 for no weapon proficiency to use a manufactured weapon?

i would argue anything humanoid shaped would have normal item slots like a character, and can activate magic items as long as its intelligence was 3+, but i don't think there are specific rules for it.

Keep in mind though that mephits are tiny. They could probably use weapons, but they'd have no reach unless and maybe even with a reach weapon, and the weapon dice and strength modifiers on the weapons would be horrible. They might be able to use wands, though, albeit maybe with some difficulty.

Oh not tiny, small. Hooked lance on small characters still gives 10 ft reach. It would probably work fine for small mephits. Familiars have a minimum of 6 int so the int limitation wont be a problem.

Str is 13..I have some characters that are medium but don't even have that on their str. Could be worse.
