A 23 year old unemployed man spending 15 hours a day playing video games does have a problem. One one hand the Dad should have noticed the problem in time to spend some time with his son when he was grwing up. On the other hand what a gentle and insightful man to use the problem medium to try and treat the problem. But on the third hand the son should get a clue, a job, and move out.
Dad wants to play, after all.

World of Warcraft expert Olivia Grace said she did not think Mr Feng's actions would necessarily act as a deterrent.
"Being killed by someone happens all the time," she said.
"People are just like that online."

The article says nothing about him being a PvP player, nor about a server focused on PvP.
Even if any of those assumptions were true, the blog says the players hired all had higher level characters, making it very unfair PvP.

Well, in PvP servers, getting killed is part of the thrill. Sometimes this can devolve into ganking or camping, which although not necessarily the funniest thing, is sort of an unshakeable by-product of the system.
It's not that griefing is desirable, but rather is a cost you have to pay in order to get free PvP, I suppose.
All in all, WoW PvP is pretty tame when you compare it to what it used to be in the early UO days. I mean, I started my days there as a miner/smith in good ol' Minoc, and by the Heavens above, did I die 24/7.
At one point we found out (I played along with a friend, who was a lumberjack/cabinetmaker) that a small guild of dedicated robbers had targeted us and some other artisans for regular raids, until we were forced to hire some help. Eventually I guess the got bored of stealing everything we had (and killing me mules!), but it must have lasted 1 or 2 months of regular shake-em-up.
