LvL cap in Pathfinder Society?

Pathfinder Society

Hi, so I just moved to a new town and wanted to get in on the RPing action. The only open table it appears to be a Society table, so here I am.

After a few days of creeping on the forums, reading all the ajusted rules and ajusting my self to a "Pathfinder only" mentality I think I'm good to go. Only question I have that kinda worries me is I belive I've read in here that you stop playing your PC after lvl 12. Is this true?

Solvrave, welcome to PFS!!! Level 12 is considered retirement for a character but there are special scenarios for those at that level to play beyond. Unfortunately, I am not sure on the final level for a character. Hope this helps.

That is true, starting at lv 12 you can no longer play normal scenarios with that character. But that's not necessarily the end for that character, you can play the retirement arc, then any module that you are within the lv range for. So while normal play stops at lv 12, you can continue playing that character until lv 18, and eventually even up to 20.

Alternatively, over the course of actually GETTING to 12th level, you might make some friends with whom you could start up a higher-level home game.

Well that's good to know. In my last group we seemed to change "stories" after hitting around lvl 5-6 and then start over. It's kind of getting old and I would like to see one of my many character concepts grow until his time comes. Thanks for the quick responces.

Ehh If I'm gonna do a home game I don't want to restrict myself with the OP rules we got going on until lvl 12 ^.^

I kind of view the society rules as a sort of "hardcore" mode compared to how I normaly play.

one thing you could do ... play your character to 12 under society rules, along the way you find your group that likes high level play ... say the group starts out at oh ... level 12. Perfect chance to "rebuild" your character to make it work better and then you can take it out of society rules if you're just going to play to play... if you're running modules for society credit you couldn't do that

but hey welcome to the wonderful fantastical world that is pathfinder and the society..

hands Solgrave his copy of PFS Forums for Nice People, along with the complete works entitled How Not to Turn Into "That Guy" on the forums oooo and let's not forget How to Read Typonese

I often hear the line of "PFS is too restrictive" or a variant there of, but I really encourage you to try the system. While there are restrictions in place, they are there to assist the players and GMs in keeping games flowing and from making one person the 'star' of the campaign over everyone else. There will of course be times when in certain situations one person takes over the game's spot light but eventually everyone gets their time to shine.

The rules of PFS are there for the players as much, if not more so, than the GMs in my opinion.

With the addition of Sanctioned Adventure Paths you can actually get to level 19.2. Here is a list of available material:

Lvl 10-12 Ruby Phoenix Tourneyment
Lvl 11-13 Beyond the Doomsday Door
Lvl 12-13.1 Retirement Arc
Lvl 12-14 Fortress of the Stone Giants, Academy of Secrets
Lvl 13-15 Into the Nightmare Rift, Tomb of the Iron Medusa
Lvl 14-16 Runeforge
Lvl 15-17 The Moonscar
Lvl 16-18 Pinnacle of Avarice, The Witchwar legacy

I didn't say they rules we're too restiv\ctive and I understand why they are there. But It is a bit of a culture shot/ trun off from what I am normally used to. Nothing I'm sure I won't get used to now.

(Side note, I don't mind some campains where there is a 'star' hero that the story kinda revolves around. I find games tend to move a lot smoother when you have at least one char who deticated to the plot... not that things don't get de-railed anyways. lol)
