I was using PCGenerator6000, a free characterbuilder, and was trying to build a halfling adopted by humans. So i gave him the adopted trait. As options for the human trait the program gave the racial traits humans get: i selected the bonus feat.
Is this right? A trait that grants a feat? The programs lets me do it, but i doubt it is right

They programmer made a common error. Adopted gives you access to a "Race Trait," not a "Racial Trait." "Race traits" are things like World Traveler, traits that a race can choose (like social, combat, or other traits). "Racial Traits" are things like Stonecunning and Bonus Feat, which are an entirely different category and not an option for Adopted.

I made the same mistake when I first read that. I figured there must be something wrong when I tried to give my human gnome magic.
Even if you run it correctly, the flavor of Adopted is really wonky.
Being raised by humans might give you genie blood. Being raised by goblins might physically make your ears pointier. Being raised by tieflings can grant you the power of eating souls. But being raised by gnomes can't possibly make you a Brastlewark businessman - because that's considered a social trait, not a race trait, which makes it incompatible with Adopted.

You can take Brastlewark Businessman if you pick up the adopted trait. If you look at page 14 of Gnomes of Golario. It says all of the listed traits are race traits. They just broke them down into separate categories. (I guess so that it's easier to find what you're looking for.) Further it specifically says you can pick up one of the traits if you take Adopted. You couldn't really take the ones that involve having gnome magic of course.

No, you couldn't take any of the Gnome Race Traits that are also Social Traits, like Brastlewark Businessman, since Adopted is a Social Trait itself, and you can only have one Trait from any particular category.
