I am just trying to figure out how to determine my AC, I feel like the app i have might be doing it wrong. To keep it simple lets just use Leather and chainmail.
My current AC without armor is 14 and my dex is 18(+4).
Leather has armor +2 and max dex bonus +6.
Does this make my AC 16??
Chainmail has armor +6 dex 2, I get confused here because it gives me 18 with this equiped.
With Leather Armor, your AC would be 16. You have 4 from your Dex and 2 from the armor.
With Chainmail, your AC would be 18. You have 6 from the armor, and you only get 2 from your Dex because your armor doesn't let you get more than 2 from your Dex.
Basically, your AC bonus from dexterity is either your dexterity modifier or the max dex value of your armor, whichever is lower. For leather armor, your dex bonus to AC is 4 because your dex mod is 4 and your max dex bonus is 6, and 4 < 6. For chainmail, your dex bonus to AC is 2 because your dex mod is 2 and your max dex bonus is 2, and 2 < 4.

Which is why mithirl armor is so good :) It increases the max dex value.
