Targeting an intersection

Rules Questions

Minute Meteors (Sp): At 1st level, you can summon a rain of tiny meteorites as a standard action to fall in a 5-foot column, 30 feet high.

Aiming a spell

As far as I can tell all area effect spells target an intersection, therefore this should hit a 4 square square. Does anyone know any errata or a reason that it would hit only one square?

Scarab Sages

Hmmm, column doesn't seem to be a defined game term, but I see no reason it wouldn't be treated just like a cylinder with a 5 foot radius. That would give you 4 effected squares horizontally by 6 effected squares vertically.

any official ruling on this?

Sounds to me like it would be the same as a 5-foot radius burst, where it impacts 4 squares. Considering that it is a 5-foot radius column, making it only one square is ignoring a significant area of effect.

I don't know of any errata that would change this. Regarding cylinders:

Quote:
When casting a cylinder-shaped spell, you select the spell's point of origin. This point is the center of a horizontal circle...

So it behaves the same as a 5-foot radius burst, except that it also affects targets above the impact zone.
