Wand of Cure Light Wounds Creation Question

Rules Questions

Hopefully a quick question. I'm playing a wizard with no access to the cure light wounds spell, nor do I have anyone in our party (that my character's aware of) that can cast cure light wounds.

If I were to take the wand creation feat later on, could I take a +5 DC in place of the spell cure light wounds, to make a cure light wounds wand? Or are wands one of the exceptions to that magical item creation rule?

Note: While I plan on taking leadership later, currently the character concept I have in mind, won't have access to cure light wounds either.

Wands are spell-trigger items.

Ok then. Good to know. Thank you.

Note that all items have prerequisites in their descriptions. These prerequisites must be met for the item to be created. Most of the time, they take the form of spells that must be known by the item's creator (although access through another magic item or spellcaster is allowed). The DC to create a magic item increases by 5 for each prerequisite the caster does not meet. The only exception to this is the requisite item creation feat, which is mandatory. In addition, you cannot create potions, spell-trigger, or spell-completion magic items without meeting its prerequisites.

This is a poorly worded description that says the only mandatory prereq is the appropriate item creation feat. then says you need all the prereqs for potion, spell-trigger, or spell completion items.

I believe someone has said that it should read that in the case of potion, spell-trigger, or spell completion items that the spell itself cannot be skipped, all the other components except the appropriate item creation feat can be skipped by increasing the DC, but i cannot find it.

The only prerequisites of potion, spell-trigger, or spell completion items (which are potions, wands, and scrolls) are the Item creation feat and the spell. The fact that you cannot skip them is in the last line you quoted (which is also the line that I quoted above). I do not believe any exceptions exist to this rule.

staves are spell-trigger items, and i thought that some might need something other than spells (like the more powerful staves that add to your armor class), but i just looked through the prd database and none require anything other than item creation feat(s) and spells. just the powerful staves require a crap load of spells/feats

True, true. I always forget about staves as they are above the power level games I am in end up getting to.

staff of minor arcana is awesome and costs slightly less than a +2 weapon! caster level 8 magic missiles :) or shield that lasts 8 minutes, and any level 1 wizard can recharge it

Note that even if you get a wand of cure light wounds, you still need the spell on your list to activate it without a Use Magic Device check.

Another option is to use Infernal Healing. If you don't mind casting a spell with the [evil] descriptor, it heals more than CLW, though it takes a minute to happen. (Also note the 1 round casting time, that applies even when it's a wand)

@Grick - Good to know. I'm playing a true neutral wizard whose attitude is more do what's necessary more than what is right or wrong. So, while I'll have to ask my DM what would happen if I used Infernal Healing, he may allow it to not change my alignment as long as I didn't over use it.

Thanks for the info everyone.

note that if he claims that casting infernal healing changes your alignment because of the evil descriptor, point out that protection from evil has the good descriptor, and is quite commonly cast by neutral people. if infernal healing changes your alignment, then so does protection from good.

You just started an alignment fight with your DM! Congrats!
