Does Flurry satisfy TWF req for Imp TWF

Rules Questions

So I am looking to make a character who uses 2 rope darts (not ideal but I love the imagery). Anyways I am wondering, if I start with a level in monk, and dont swap out Flurry, does that satisfy the "twf" req for Imp two-weapon fighting and beyond. Also since I am using 2 monk weapons, could I avoid having to take double slice?

Nope. FoB says "as if using two-weapon fighting", what you really want/need is the feat to be granted to you.

How do you mean "avoiding having to take double slice"? I assume you are considering the full strength bonus to offhand FoB attacks. If you flurry with both weapons, you get full Str on both attacks. TWF however, will require the feat investment. You're pretty much stuck either going all the way with monk or going the full feat route if you want all the extra attacks.

Well if I do have to get the full feat route for extra attacks,
can I say... I flurry (using all my twf feats)...and get full str to off hang FoB attacks.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Sadly you can't get the best of both worlds here. FoB abilities only trigger when using FoB as it is its own special action, TWF can't be tied in to or play off of it.

Edit: Misread something in your response, so I removed my response to that.

Out of curiosity, is there a specific build that you are going for here? Something like Monk 1/<Class without relevant bonus feats> X or just asking for curiosity's sake?

No, and no, you can't combine 2wf and flurry...
Especially not with the 'newly clarified' flurry.
I kind of wish they had gone the other way, full 2wf flurry,
and actually granting you the 2wf feats (conditionally, w/ UAS/monk weapons)
which you could use to qualify for any other feat (as long as 2wf'ing with UAS and/or monk weapons),
maybe even saying that other requirements like DEX don't apply to those feats...

but that isn't what we got...

Ask your DM to let you take it as a homebrew feat (Improved flurry) with requirements akin to ITWF that works only with the restrictions of flurry met.

Shouldn't seem out of line,

Be sure to check out this and this FAQ.

As bbt pointed out, the new faq allows you to flurry with a single weapon, so I would even consider it superior to normal TWF. You wouldn't need double slice with it then.

But you do not count as having TWF either - flurry is its own thing.

Flurry already has a sort of Double Slice built in, as none of the attacks during Flurry are considered off-hand, and receive full strength.

No x1.5 strength on two handed weapons during Flurry though. Still gain bonuses to damage from Power Attack at least.

Thanks guys. Thats kind of a bummer.

So just wondering does a full BAB class gain anything from a dip in monk that retains FoB or does it just make sense, when dipping to trade out FoB for something else like MoMS or Menauver Master

I see no reason why you couldn't still do your concept.

Flurry with two Rope Darts, and get full strength to each. No need for feats.

What would you want to do as well?

Hmmm well my problem is that I need to get the close thrower feat so i can threaten adjacent not too much trouble.
But the bigger problem is how I get enough dmg without Wep Spec + Weapon Training.

Martial Artist archetype Monk can take Fighter feats.

I would go the Advice Board for help with your build.

Thanks BBT.
