Armour and Expeditious Retreat

Rules Questions

We got into a rules argument last game session over how expeditious retreat works.

I claim that expeditious retreat adds a flat speed bonus to movement and this movement speed bonus is not affected by armour.

The gm claims that the movement speed increase by expeditious retreat IS affected by armour.

Which is it? I can't really find anything in the rulebook.

First, modify speed by Armor, then, add the enhancement bonus to speed.

It shouldn't be that hard given what Expeditious Retreat says it does.

This spell increases your base land speed by 30 feet.

The bold is mine for emphasis. You would add the 30 feet to your base land speed and then consult the "Armor and Encumbrance for Other Base Speeds" in the Additional Rules chapter of the Core Rule Book and look up your new effective movement speed.

If your normal move is 30 feet, then you'd go up to 60 and check the reduction chart to see you'd be moving at 40 feet while in heavier armour or are encumbered.

If your normal move is 20 feet, you'd go up to 50 base and then get reduced to 35 feet.

Also remember that as an Enhancement bonus it will stack with the Barbarian's fast movement (which is unnamed and specifically says it stacks with things) but not the Monk's which is also an Enhancement bonus.

This makes Expeditious Retreat seem like a far less attractive deal for an inquisitor in heavy armour.

I was hoping it would be a flat boost to maximum speed.

Grand Lodge

Well, it good for Dwarven Inquisitors in Heavy Armor.
