Evolution Points as an Alternative to Magic Items?

Homebrew and House Rules

Would using Summoners Evolution Points work instead of magic items. So instead of buying artifacts as they level pc's gain a number of evolution points which they can spend on anything other than natural attacks and extra limbs. Current Evolution's can replace the Armour bonus from both natural and manufactured armor as well as replacing the attribute adjusters. It would not take much to add deflection and weapon enhancements to the evolution pool which should pretty much allow it most of the things magical items can do.

this could be interesting.

but i like the idea of not using the big six.

As with any alternate system it's all about scaling.
compare the different evolutions to their equivalent effects in magical items and see how much they cost in gp, then it's just a matter of assigning a certain number to each level that equates to the increase in average wealth.

They weren't made for that, so I recommend not using them for that. Kolokotroni's system (linked by widuj) is a lot better for this :)

If you were running a scifi, X-men sort of adventure then I could see this working out, it would just take a lot of prep work to balance.
