Musket Axe (etc) does weapon focus apply to both blade and musket?

Rules Questions

Musket, Axe: This musket features an axe blade at the end of its barrel. It can be used as both a musket and a battleaxe. It is considered a double weapon for purposes of creating masterwork or magical versions of this weapon. If this firearm gains the broken condition, both the firearm component and the axe are considered broken. An axe musket uses either a bullet and a single dose of black powder or an alchemical cartridge as ammunition.

All such weapons have the same wording.

Double weaponscan share a weapon focus, but these are only "considered double for the purposes of ..."

It seems pretty unlikely logically.

Any rulings/thoughts?

I think whatever training the character underwent to gain Weapon Focus would have included both shooting and chopping practice. As for the rules, it is one weapon, so the focus applies to both ways of using it. Weapon Focus Javelin would give +1 to throws and stabs. This is no different.

I would say no because it is a musket and a battleaxe. That are two differend weapons with a totally different kind of usage.

A javelin is one weapon .. regardless if you throw or stab with it.

So, you can be proficient, and non-proficient, with the same weapon?

I think I'd rule towards no 1 weapon focus doesn't work for both. Anybody martial proficient could pick up the musket axe and chop heads with it. Using guns in the setting is different though and requires specific exotic proficiency.

So, the Musket end counts as a Musket?

It is a musket and a battleaxe .. so yes you can be proficient with one and non-proficient with the other (part of the) weapon.

A shield is very similar weapon/item. You can be proficient with shields but maybe you are non-proficient with martial weapons (for a shield bash).

You need two different proficiencies to use the weapon in two different ways. Same for weapon focus, fighter weapon groups etc.

It's not like a javelin. It's a weapon that can be used as two different weapons: a battleaxe or a musket.
