There should probably be spoiler tags around the name of the scenario in the first post.
And I've played that scenario. Our GM taunted us in advance that it contains a "fate worse than death". Luckily, it didn't matter when I played it, because we won (after my barbarian was disarmed of his best weapon, which the baddy tried to get away with).

Losing gear is the consequence for not beating that bad guy in that adventure. It's intentionally written into the adventure that way. In some scenarios, the consequence of losing a fight is death, which costs about 7000 GP or a lot of PA to recover from. In this one, the consequence is an item that will cost you even more than that. It sucks, but at the high level of that particular adventure, you'll earn enough money to buy a replacement in two or three scenarios, anyway.

Doesn't appear so. You can send the ninjas in to get your corpse, but it says nothing about your gear. This just seems like poor mod writing to me. You know to be prepared to deal with death, but not to be forced to be less useful for the rest of your career as 26,500GP is forever gone. That's nearly 25% of your expected wealth for those of you counting.

Jiggy:
The dragon offers to parley first. If the party fails to offer something appropriate, or just charges in, the dragon fights for a while. If the party then attempts to parley, after losing the dragon's good will, the cost is higher. The GM in question played this encounter as Kyle wrote it.
That Porter Kid:
The way to get your stuff back is to attack and kill the Bad Guy before the scenario ends.
As it stands, you need to carry on with less gear, and be more careful about which enemies you pick to fight.

Most people don't have that much invested in a single piece of equipment, so it's usually not quite that bad. When my barbarian had his weapon stolen, it was only a +2 equivalent weapon.
And again, at that level, playing other adventures of that level, you'll get that money back soon enough.
Failure has consequences. At lower levels, having to pay to be brought back from the dead will set you back enough money that it would take you even longer to get it back.

That's what i figured! Thanks for the feedback guys/gals, i'm just glad it wasn't my weapon as well :D.
@Jiggy, a evil creature told a paladin to bend the knee or be destroyed. As Rorscgacg said, Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon.
A complete inability to compromise is not a facet of the Paladin. It's a sign that your character is lawful stupid. If you'll never compromise, even the face of oblivion, your party is much more likely to meet oblivion.
In reference to the OP, the 5PP body recovery expedition seems to be exactly what you need. Even though it doesn't specifically mention that it can be used to grab gear, it's typically assumed that they will grab gear found on and near your body; asking them to just grab gear where there's no body to be found doesn't seem like a stretch at all.

The 5 PP recovery doesn't do that, Ileist. If you pay to recover your body, and you're standing right there, the recovery team shrugs, points at you, and goes about their next job.
According to the recent FAQ, however, it always recovers gear that a body possessed at the time of death. So, if your paladin were to choose to kill himself in battle against the foe, the recovery would include any gear the villain were to pluck off the corpse, or even items that the party subsequently takes and uses.
