Use Magic Device.
If the wand is of a spell that is on your class spell list, you don't need any skill to use it.
That is, assuming you know the command word.
What if you don't know the command word? Do you have to roll UMD, or do you roll Knowledge (Arcana) or Spellcraft to figure it out?

Thats cool so how do I learn this if its not part of my trained skills.
I'm a wizard wanting to buy a cure lt wounds but I'm guessing I can't use it.

You just put ranks into the skill. Having a skill as a class skill only means you get a +3 bonus on checks with that skill if you have at least 1 rank in it. You can still put ranks into non-class skills. Anyone can put a rank into any skill.

Then you use Use Magic Device. Or, cast Detect Magic or Identify, then make a Spellcraft check to identify the item and all of its properties (including how to activate it, like its command word if it has one.)

Ok, let's talk Rangers (not the Texas variety).
My lvl one Ranger has a wand of Cure Light Wounds. CLW is on the Ranger's spell list. Let me see if I get this all correct.
1 - No Use Magic Device check is required as the spell is on his spell list.
2 - No Spellcraft check is needed because the Ranger knows the identity of the wand.
3 - He can cast the wand as a standard action. Obviously it is a touch spell and all things according to the normal spell apply.
4 - The only downside, CLW does 1d8 healing + caster lvl. A lvl one Ranger is technically a -3 lvl caster (at lvl four their Caster lvl is their class level -3). So the wand would actually heal 1d8 -3.
Do these things make sense? Until I figured out number four, everything seemed very overpowered, but I now it seems to be balanced ok.
P.S. Sorry, to necro this thread but I read through all the other threads for answers and found nothing about #4 or anything specific to my situation.
EDIT: Quick update, just noticed that Rangers have no caster level until lvl 4, so I guess the CLW would just be 1d8 +0.

What Zhayne said is true and I do not think that you can activate it without a successful Use Magic Device skill check until you are at least a 4th level Ranger. Up until that point it is not on your spell list as you have no caster level.
Edit: Sorry, scratch that! I recalled a blip under activation of spell trigger items and when I looked at it again, you can indeed use a wand even if your caster level is zero provided you will have access to that spell eventually. Sorry for the confusion.
