Alright, there's been discussion among my peers as to whether I've chosen wisely in terms of spell selection.
My party is satisfied, but others where we play have expressed genuine disbelief as to my choices, wondering what I was thinking not taking this spell or that, now they've got me paranoid.
Here's the background, my character is party face, bit of a skill monkey (I took a level of bard early to gain healing and more skills) and rarely shies away from battle.
Here's what I've got and what I'm taking next.

I'm taking the Expanded Arcana feat so I get two 2s and a 3.
I'm taking Blindness/Deafness, Command Undead and Vampiric Touch.
What do you think?

You want to play a character who shies away from battle but has no utility spells at first level, only combat relevant spells (and a cure spell)
Shocking grasp is no spell I'd take as a sorcerer/bard.

RARELY shies away from battle.
Besides, Spectral Hand is a combo with Shocking Grasp, and also works with Vampiric Touch.
The only reason I end up in melee so often is most of the time in our campaign there's nowhere for me to run.
And when that's the case, Shocking Grasp comes in quite handy, especially with Long Limbs.
Sorry, misread this.
But taking only combat spells for 1st level would still not be something I'd do.
That's not the order I took them in.
I took Mage Armor and Magic Missile initially, along with Mage Hadn, Detect Magic, Message and Read Magic.
I should note I am limited to the CRB, I was only able to get Exp. Arcana by RPing it out.
And in order to swap Sleep for Grease, wouldn't i need to take another level of Bard?
