just curious, often after the save there's to more effect that poison or disease causes (though some poisons do like 1d3 CON per round for 6 rounds)... so, what's the point of remove disease/neutralize poison if they don't also cure the ability score damage? am I better off getting potions of lesser restoration?

Remove disease or neutralise poison stop the ongoing damage without the character having to succeed on saves. Some afflictions also have worse effects than ability damage or can't be cured by saving throws.
Restoration then fixes the ability damage.
You could benefit from both, as well as antitoxin and antiplague, depending how confident you are that party members can make level-appropriate Fortitude saves.
