Borox opens the door and looks inside while waiting for the clerk to answer him.


On Hiatus

"I'm just an assistant. I don't know much more than Mr. Sloan's schedule and daily operations. Nothing I know is worth his wrath." she answers, rising and holding her hands up in surrender. "By now I'm sure he's already on his way."

Beyond the door, Borox sees a finely appointed sitting room, with a floor tiled in marble and draped in rugs from Katapesh. A tapestry on the wall displays a ship sailing from what appears to be Sothis given the enormous beetle carapace looming over the harbor. Finely carved chairs sit before a stone fireplace while two angelic statues flank a door in the northwest. To the northeast, a bookshelf stands by a desk, which is covered by what appears to be maps.

Wolfgang was on the opposite side of the building as Borox had leapt ahead during the search. The 16 on your first roll is certainly enough to hear the sounds of combat even with the distance, so the rest of the party can begin moving to join Athalis and Borox.

Taking flight, the northernmost angel swoops over to strike at Borox from above, allowing the Gorumite to return in kind! Borox can take his readied attack now.

Athalis moves through the door and casts a spell that causes him to grow in size again, figuring that extended reach will be needed to combat these flying statues. He uses some of his magic again to make his weapon more formidable, based on what he knows of these living statues.

Move 20' then cast Enlarge Person and use a swift action to make sword 'Shock Burst'. Hopefully my extended reach will hamper their flyby attacks to some degree. Will also try to identify the statues, presumably with a Knowledge (Arcane) check? Looking for Resistances (which might affect my enhancement decision) and DR in that order, though with my cruddy roll I'll be lucky just to know the first one..,

Athalis recognizes them as angelic guardians, constructs likely made in the Golemworks here in Magnimar. Although they are not one of the more powerful golems created by the foundry, further details escape Athalis' recollection. Borox takes a glancing blow as the guardian deftly avoids his greatsword.

Borox begins to sweat a little bit as the pain flows through him. "That's gonna leave a bruise," he thinks as he begins to use his Ferocious Strike ability. He swings the sword again in a mighty blow trying to knock the nearest statue to pieces.

I'm not clear on where Wolfgang is standing right now. That said, he'll try to move to the room where Borox is fighting the constructs. If he can do that and attack he'll do this against the previously mentioned target. If not he'll just take a full round action to run toward the fray

I've moved Wolfgang into the position he could reach in two double moves. He should be able to maneuver into a firing position on round 3.

As Athalis weaves his spell, the mouth of the first guardian opens and fire issues forth! The torrent sprays over Borox and out the door to scorch the darkwood table and Athalis with it.

Fire Damage 60ft Line: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 5, 4, 4) = 21 DC13 Reflex for half. Athalis will need a concentration check, DC11+damage taken.

Agraic smashes at the door, but even his adamantine polearm does not quite smash through it yet, despite great rents in the metal. Forgot to mention it was an iron door.

The magus never sees the fiery conflagration headed straight toward him, and the elf is badly burned, his spell dying on his lips. Anger flares in his mind as he cries out in pain, then returns the favor by sending a flurry of magic missiles at the same statue, then moves forward to engage it in battle.

Magic Missile Damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) + 3 = 10 vs Red Statue

Since I wasn't yet enlarged, do I get a +4 bonus to my Reflex save because of the table providing me cover? :) I rolled like crud for both rolls anyway, so the Concentration check fails either way...

That sounds totally fair, the brave table takes one for the Pathfinders, rebelling against its Aspis slavemasters! :)

Heavily damaged, Borox takes a five-foot step back and aims a blow at the red statue using his Ferocious Strike again.

Two things. Did my earlier attack miss? I didn't see any wording to indicate a hit or a miss. Also, the fire attack. I don't know if it was a spell or spell-like attack that would invoke the Dwarven Hardy condition, but if it did, I'd get a +2 bonus to that save. If not, oh well, karma.

If I can invoke any kind of reroll on that ATK roll I will. Portfolio, purple Gen Con GM t-shirt, any form of purple dot of shame, 1-3 GM Stars. Plus someone kick the die roller because it's sucking badly for me this entire convention!

My bad, totally slipped up and missed including your post in the flurry.

Borox connects two solid hits to his roaster, but notices the blade fails to cut quite as deeply as expected. Wolfgang benefits from Athalis not taking up the room and pings a bolt across the other guardian. His bolt does not quite manage to penetrate the hard metal however. The blue tinged angel follows after Borox, finding much the same success as the other.

Athalis finds that the damaged statue is beyond his reach, and so casts a spell with his free hand that he hopes to limit the combat effectiveness (if briefly) of the undamaged guardian of this room. Imbuing his blade with numbing cold, in addition to the electricity that currently flows through it, the magus also summons his arcane magic to further amplify the blow and swings his katana at the living statue!

Sweet! Assuming that critical hit confirms, the statue takes 59 total damage (22 slashing, 11 electricity and 26 cold if it has any resistances/immunities) is 'staggered' for 1 minute instead of 1 round from the Frigid Touch spell.

Katana now deals +1d6 electricity damage and a further +2 damage when using swift action for Arcane Strike. On a critical hit (18-20), extra shocking damage of 1d10 is also applied.

Agraic's third strike on the door caves the metal fully in, revealing cabinets and ironbound chests lining the walls of the room beyond. The northern wall bears a wooden mask, cut with sharp corners and bearing glowing runes on its brow. More alarmingly, two Aspis clerks stand in the room, vials in their hands. As the door finally gives way, they smash the vials into piles of parchment on the floor before them. Bursts of flame wash over the parchment, splashing both clerks but also igniting the documents into a merry blaze.

Metumé continues her run into the room, past Wolfgang between shots, and quickly appraises the situation. Flank! she shouts out as she drops her saps, realizing they would be of no help against stone, and draws her kukris and running into flanking position, trying to dodge past the inevitable swings of the statue. When in position, she take a strike with her kukri, thinking she should put a request in with Maléwyn to get an adamantine kukri for her.

One Possibility...:

Agraic is a Relic Guardian: Your stewardship of historical treasures inspires you to act quickly to save such relics from destruction. Once per scenario, when an unattended object within your reach is targeted by an offensive spell, attack, or effect, you can treat that object as though it were in your possession for the purpose of attempting saving throws and resisting sunder attempts. If an opponent succeeds at a combat maneuver check to sunder an object in your possession, you can cross this boon off your Chronicle sheet to force the creature to reroll the attack with a -5 penalty PFS #6-04

Second Possibility...:

Agraic DID state at the start of this phase of the mission that he really, really needed to 'go'. Willing to take an armor penalty (and potentially AoO) to reflect a move action of adjusting armor to do so, and letting the sacred blessings of Cayden flow forth to end the impending conflagration....

If Athalis can hear the distant door being broken down, he will move to investigate while the others search the room, calling out to the dwarf. "Borox, with me."

Suggest that our two high Perception folks search this room while Borox and I head back to help Agraic, if the DM allows that we can hear that door being busted down (which I figure was probably quite loud.)

Agraic moves almost reflexively, swatting one of the vials away into the wall, leaving half the pile only spattered with droplets of alchemist fire!

Agraic dives onto the burning parchment, singing hair and skin as he rolls his body over the flames. However, when the fire dies out, the ashes that remain are of no use.

The party runs into the fleeing clerks as they escape the vault, both raising hands in surrender.

Athalis also takes a look at the documents, trying to glean what he can from the surviving fragments.

The magus turns a stern glare on the men and speaks to the others. "We should tie them up securely and take them with us when we leave. Perhaps they can be persuaded to speak of what information was on those pages they burned up completely."

After doing what they can and securing their prisoners, Athalis returns to the room where they fought the statues and, after learning of the secret doors, suggests that they try the one on the east wall. He also asks Borox to use the healing wand he carries in his pack to take care of his injuries.

Jeez, finally a decent roll! Hope it actually does some good and isn't a wasted crit. :) I'm presuming I have a few rounds in which to use my CLW wand and that Borox will do the honors so I don't have to roll a UMD. Those gimpy rolls are back to the usual luck, it appears...


On Hiatus

The two clerks offer no resistance to being restrained, clearly having no weapons or armor to defend themselves with. Athalis leafs through the secured documents as Borox dispenses healing and finds a number of bills of sale suggesting the traffic of Thassilonian relics. Some of the daily logs also refer to a separate vault in the house, although they do not reveal the location.

7.5 minutes elapsed, roughly. That was a very lucky roll, as the DCs for these checks are pretty tough. For the sake of time, I'll let you know that I'm skipping the other five guards that could try to stop you, as you're able to one-shot them all and it wouldn't do anything but delay the table more than it already has been.
