New to Pathfinder

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I have recently acquired a lot of Pathfinder product and I'm ready to dive in. I'm confused on some things though.

What is the difference between Chronicles and Campaign Settings?

What is the difference between Companino and Player Companion?

I think the Adventure Path is a great idea.

I'm trying to go through and see what is made stricly for Pathfinder system and what is made for 3.5. I realize the 3.5 stuff can be converted. Trying to figure out the easiest way to look at these different products and know with a glance what is made for the Pathfinder system specifically.

It is a gorgeous product. I find myself just staring at all of the great art.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Pathfinder Accessories, Rulebook, Starfinder Accessories, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber

Welcome to the game!

Chronicles got rebranded to Campaign Settings.

Companion got rebranded Player Companion.

If you go to the appriotet pages on the website you will see options to look at the 3.5 or the Pathfinder.

In addition to looking here on the website, you should be able to look at the title page of any book and identify whether it is for 3.5e or Pathfinder. It will usually have a couple sentences saying which game system it was written for and also mentioning it can be adapted for other systems.

Failing that, look at any stat-block in the book. 3.5e statblocks should have a Grapple or Grp modifier listed, while Pathfinder statblocks will have a CMB and CMD value listed.

Question - do you get four times your skill ranks at first level or not? I haven't been able to find that in the core rules, but I read it somewhere else during someone's character generation step by step post. So, I wasn't sure. What page is that on, if it is true?

Liberty's Edge

That's from 3.5. I know the thread you're talking about, and the OP did say that was his mistake. In Pathfinder, you do not get x4 skill points at first level, but you do get a +3 bonus to any class skill you have ranks in. That's the trade-off between 3.5 and Pathfinder.
