My elven wizard died last night and I'm looking forward to my next character. I'm considering an oracle/sorcerer/mystic thurge (we're 9th level, so I can do that). I know its a serious reduction in spell capability going from 5th level spells to 2nd level spell is going to be rough, but it should be a challenge.
Anyways, I'm considering a flame oracle and a fire elemental sorcerer. These have some nice abilities that I could see an argument for crossover. My question is: do they cross over?
Here's an example:
Oracle ability
Burning Magic (Su): Whenever a creature fails a saving throw and takes fire damage from one of your spells, it catches on fire. This fire deals 1 point of fire damage per spell level at the beginning of the burning creature’s turn.
The ability goes on to describe this in more detail, but no where in the ability does it say that this is limited to oracle fire spells. So can I use this with the sorcerer spell scorching ray?
Or the Sorcerer Bloodline Arcana:
Bloodline Arcana: Whenever you cast a spell that deals energy damage, you can change the type of damage to match the type of your bloodline. This also changes the spell’s type to match the type of your bloodline.
So can I change an oracle's energy damage spells to fire?
Thoughts?

Unless noted somewhere outside these descriptions, these abilities should cross over. And why not? By taking a hit to higher level spells you should be able to enjoy some benefits.
The Mystic Thurge has a soft spot in my heart, but I've never been able to justify playing one. If this character will be the primary spell caster, and/or you didn't find you were using all of your spells each day as your wizard, then the group and yourself will feel a negative impact while adventuring. If you have at least one other primary caster, and adventuring can stretch on between rest, this is not a bad concept.

Yep! Those things apply to all spells unless it specifically limits it.

You look like you're trying to make a blaster character.
You're not going to be happy going the MT route because your caster level as well as your available spell levels, simply are not going to be up to snuff for a character that's focused on damage. The MT is great for buffs and some amount of battlefield control, but having more spells isn't going make up for the fact that they're going to be tremendously weak spells.
