Help with adding to attack rolls

Advice

I'm asking for some advice for a friend who doesn't frequent these forums, mostly just checking to see if I am missing something. We have just hit 16th level (just finished the Serpent's Skull AP and continuing on for a bit) and while most of us are happy with how our characters have been doing, the person in the party playing the rogue is unhappy with how often she misses attack rolls. When she hits her damage is quite good, but she is having a problem landing these attacks, aand she asked for help raising her attack bonus. The rogue is a TWF, dex based melee character. Here are the things I have already thought of:

+ to Dex Items (GM allows agile weapon enhancement and rogue already has Weapon finesse)
higher weapon enhancement bonus (obviously)
Weapon Focus (switching things up such that she has 2 shortswords instead of 1x shortsword and 1x rapier)
There are a couple of Ioun Stones that can Increase Attack
Upping her bluff check and taking two weapon feint feats (a bit late int he game to do this one)
Take levels in fighter (also a bit late)

I'm looking for feats / items / possibly even some dips that would add to her attack roll, any advice would be appreciated (other than: "well, she shouldn't have played a rogue then")

May I suggest "Outflank" a feat from the APG, perhaps with "Gang-up" also an APG feat.

Further the "Menacing" weapon property could be of some help.

Magical buffs from other players or from items would be one way: heroism (the duration of this can make it last for quite a few encounters at your level, especially if cast with a metamagic rod, lesser extend), haste, prayer, an inspire courage bardic performance, greater invisibility, and blink (although some people hate this spell because it can cause you to miss, I personally am a fan of it; it does a lot) all come to mind off the top of my head.

Debuffing the AC of enemies is another option. There are really an uncountable number of ways to do this, depending on your group composition.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Though if said person wants ways to up to hit without the help of others wands are the way to go. There are plenty of good wandable buffs. Being a rogue they should have a good UMD by this point.

A permanent reduce person at those levels is rather easy to do and nets total boosts of +2 to hit +2 to ac + 1 to weapon damage +4 to stealth and the down side is the d6 weapon damage goes down to a d4.

I'd second the rogue or another melee character having the Menacing property. It just costs +1 equivalent, and it'd be very beneficial. The character with it doesn't even have to be flanking, just adjacent to the mob while you are flanking to get the bonus.

Also, if she doesn't already have a big enhancement bonus to dex through items, she could consider some potions of cat's grace. (+4 enhancement bonus to dex which with weapon finesse would be +2 to attack) 300g per is just a drop in the bucket at level 16. Even a potion of Heroism at 750g is pretty cheap and handy if there's no one giving a morale bonus.

At that level the rogue has what 5-6 attacks with twf/imp/greater.. Your first 2 should be auto's with the 2nd 2 hitting ard 50/50.. The last 2 should be crit fishing to hit. No matter what classes u are its never expected to hit with your last attacks.. Their are plenty of spells that increase to hit, get some wands of them.. Perma reduce person is a good idea, or a wand.. haste/heroism are both good for pluses that stack as well.. The rest of the decent attack buffers u already know about..

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Short Swords of Subtlety.

The additional +4/+4 th/dmg stacks on top of everything else when you're using SA. One of the best combat weapons in the game.

I favorited the UMD for rogue. The spells listed should be within his ability (except for maybe permanency), and at his level he should be able to afford the scrolls and be self-sufficient.

I would like to thank you all for your advice, we just had our next session and the Rogue was actually quite good in combat even against a monster with a very high AC, so your advice worked, thanks!
