Adventure paths and treasure

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

How much thought do GMs give to treasure when it comes to a published adventure path? Specifically, do most GMs just give the treasure listed under the "Treasure" headings in the text and call it a day? Does anyone add extra treasure to make sure that the party stays on track with the expected wealth per character level guidelines? More importantly, what about the treasure listed for a monster in the bestiary? Should a GM ignore that and assume that the monster's treasure is scattered around the dungeon somewhere, or should the GM be giving out treasure for each monster killed based on the guidlines in the bestiary?

I'm a little unclear on this all.

If played with the 'standard' 4 player party, at the recommended advancement scheme, the treasures as listed should adhere to the WBL well enough. In any case, you should not need to add treasure for the monsters stated in the AP.

Of course, if you throw in encounters of your own, you should provide the corresponding loot.

This having been said, I have the habit of modifying some of the treasure, if logical. I see no problem in exchanging a Greatword for a Greataxe, or putting a +whatever Chain Shirt instead of a Chain Mail, if these items fit your group better better.

Of course, these substitutions have to be logical.

I'll be running a 4 playerer AP with a party of six. Any suggestions?

Note: James has said that, at least in early APs, they were putting in 150% of the WBL table into the treasure. This was so that people could miss some and still be on track.

I think that depends very much on different things. Do PCs die? Are they ressurected and get restoration cast on them?

In our Kingmaker game I guess we were a good way behind WBL for some time because in the fight with the stag lord (end book 1) a PC died and was brought back (don't remember which spell was used) and restored to full levels.
If I remember right that cost us about 7000gp. I think we were just level 4 after the fight so you could say between 3000 and 6000 WBL. We spent everything we would have earned by defeating the stag lord and some money we earned earlier.

We never really recovered from that in my opinion.
The only reason we're about right with wbl now is that we got a crafter who can make our wondrous items for half price.

Liberty's Edge

I have my players do occasional audits of all their gear. Recently in my Shackled City game there were some huge discrepancies so I added in some more treasure for em.
