I'm starting a couple of adventure paths for my gaming groups and was wondering.
Who, character wise, could reasonably be expected to know anything about Thasslion history and/or magic?
Is this they type of information that could have been learned before a campaign starts and be represented with various knowledge skills?
Or is the information ment to be discovered during the campaign?
Or both?
Heck, for that matter I need to find some sources for the information myself.
Any opinions or suggestions?

It depends on whether or not you are setting your AP before or after Rise of the Runelords.
Prior to RotR, what's known about Thasslion is largely guesswork, comparable to what was "known" about Ancient Egypt before the discovery of the Rosetta Stone. After RotR however, with the discovery of the Thasslion Library and opening of Xin-Shalast, much more accurate and concrete information is available.
But ultimately, what the players know or can find out is up to you and the demands of your campaign.
