I note that Familiars can their masters skill ranks for thier own skill checks.
Can a wizard, when he levels spend a point on liguistics to teach a familiar to speak common?
Or at least, If he wizard uses linguistics to learn a language, can the familiar understand it?
I wondered that a while back. My DM eventually agreed the familiar learns the language, though in my case my familiar was already capable of speech (and an improved familiar, too).
I think if the familiar can mimick human speech, lke a raven, linguistics should let them gain more languages to speak. Other familiars would be able to understand the language, but be unable to speak it due to not having the vocal chords or whatever to enable speech.
Just IMO.
