Appropriate class for RPG beginner

Advice

Hi there.
I'm Japanese pathfinder gamemaster with almost 2 years experimence.

Yesterday, my company 4 collegues asked me to play this game because he was interested in this game. Then, I decided to hold a "trial" game with them (Of course 1 level character!!).

However, One player is totally beginner for RPG (in Japan, we say TRPG (lit. Table talk Role playing game). Others say that they have played another RPG.

In this case, what class should I recommend for him( totally beginner player)?

Oh, we use English if needed (for example, having a meeting with Globals). So our English level is upper, I think.

Now, I have completed a very very easy dungeon scenario ( going to cave and explore there and decimate goblins)

I think that a wizard is appropriate for him because there are a lof of spell and he can learn them during the game.

Thanks a lot!

You can't go wrong with a fighter or barbarian. They are fairly easy to build into and are quite fun. It's hard to mess up a fighter build honestly.

Honestly, I think that if you're all starting as level one characters, they are all appropriate classes. The question I would ask is: what class fits the style that the player wants? Once you know that, you can then work on keeping the character alive and productive.

A wizard is often considered a more difficult class, but if all four players are all novices then I don't think it matters. One possible route if for the players to play cleric, fighter, rogue and wizard. Another is to let each one choose whatever class looks fun. Talk with each player about what the class is capable of and what the weaknesses are.

Especially with new players, it is your duty as GM/DM to make sure that they have fun.

I have found the best way to do this is to make stripped down pregens. Make 4 characters who are mechanically easy to play. In my mind, there are a few things that help:

1) Avoid abilities you switch on and off (point blank shot, rage, power attack).
2) Give spell casters fewer, easier spells
3) Cut the sheets down to show only info they need
4) Sometimes complicated characters (i.e. multiple archetypes and non-core feats) are simpler than an easy core class.

My faves:
1) Fighter with a 2 handed weapon whose feats are power attack and furious focus (the latter means that power attack is always on at low level and gets rid of the toggle).

2) Primal Bloodline sorcerer with spell focus evocation

3) Oracle - Lame Curse, Battle Mystery, Skill at Arms Revelation
