So I'm in the middle of building a large dungeon for my players to celebrate our 4th or 5th year of gaming together (don't ask about the date we are still a little fuzzy on the when of starting lol). The dungeon is a giant Aztec temple inhabited by the sinister cult they have been fighting for the last few months and it's their job to clear it of the evil therein and finally defeat the bringers of this vial pandemic. The problem I'm having is that I'm having trouble thinking of different types of rooms that would exist in such a structure as it stands and was wondering if you guys new anything about ancient temple monasteries and what kind of rooms you would find therein. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
To give a little insight into the structure of the temple it's a 4 level step pyramid with a flat roof with small shrine on top with a long 20ft wide stairwell leading to the top. Right now I know I've got living quarters, a vault, kitchen, and 2 separate chapels (one meant to be private for the former monks the other for public use) but outside of that I'm kind of drawing a blank.

Keep in mind that such temples in fantasy tend to be vastly different than such structures in reality. Probably there will be a treasure room somewhere. I'd need a bit more info to make better suggestions, but maybe these will help:

Thank you all soo much I'm going to hit those links here in a sec. I know that its usually a little different but I like to start with real life examples and then build off from there it makes places feel more real and helps ground the fantastical stuff. Also Skylark didn't even think of an inside garden that will be perfect and will go great with the kami that have holed up in the structure.

Make the very top of the temple a huge tavern full of seductive vampires with a vampire band playing as the fanged females attack and charm you. Yes, I am referencing From Dusk til Dawn :)
No vampires unfortunately but I am looking for some good undead choices for a lost monastery in the middle of a jungle swamp.

Ghouls or Wights that eat only bones and pile the flesh on an alter as tribute to their god.
After the players kill all the ghouls or wights, then the heaping pile of diseased rotting flesh animates as a huge undead ooze!

Put in an arena for Juego de Pelota, the Mayan ball game, and have the players encounter an undead team that challenges them to a match as an alternative to combat. If the players win, they get to pass through the arena unharmed while the undead team's captain has his head removed and used as the new ball. If the player's lose, the undead try to take the party leader's head.
