Polymorph any object: Lantern Archon -> Assimar

Rules Questions

So the lantern archon now has the body of an assimar, but can it still use all of its archon abilities such as fly 50' perfect, light rays, SLA's?

My thought is that it would still essentially still be a lantern archon with all same powers, but with the added benefit of thumbs.

Thoughts?

Lantern Archon

Speed fly 60 ft. (perfect)
Light Ray (Ex)

Polymorph: "While under the effects of a polymorph spell, you lose all extraordinary and supernatural abilities that depend on your original form (such as keen senses, scent, and darkvision), as well as any natural attacks and movement types possessed by your original form."

Fly is a movement type, it's gone.

Light Ray is an extraordinary ability, and I would consider that to be granted by the form, since the lantern archon is an orb of light.

The SLAs are probably fine, though.

wait what? how does that work?

Good question, actually.

An Aasimar is outsider (native). Polymorph Any Object functions like greater polymorph, which functions as polymorph, so your options are animal, humanoid, elemental, dragon, plant, stone, mud, or wood.

So you could turn it into a human, but not an aasimar.

By the great powers of the 3rd best non-epic spell. All hail Polymorph any Object!

The problem with this assertion is that "wool coat" is listed as one of the legal options on the sample duration table. This implies that "You can use this spell to transform all manner of objects and creatures into new forms—you aren't limited to transforming a living creature into another living form" is not limited by the list of spells it is able to duplicate. The spells it is able to duplicate are an additional option, granting the ability to use those spells' parameters when they're more desirable. (For example, using Stone to Flesh's instantaneous duration.)

So the problem is not that you can't turn things into outsiders, but rather that there's no basis for knowing what outsider abilities are granted - by default, it would be none except for what the polymorph subschool automatically grants.

This is covered under the general polymorph rules.

You also lose any class features that depend upon form, but those that allow you to add features (such as sorcerers that can grow claws) still function. While most of these should be obvious, the GM is the final arbiter of what abilities depend on form and are lost when a new form is assumed. Your new form might restore a number of these abilities if they are possessed by the new form.

So, I would say light rays are lost.

I could turn a rock into an assimar. It's only a matter of duration.

Edit: we'll, it'll look like an assimar anyway.

I was actually just wanting to give a lantern archon the appearance of a humanoid while maintaining its abilities. I'd prefer if it not be an illusion. I also plan to put them in stuartess outfits.
