Where does it say that a combat trained animal is proficient in barding?
I can't seem to find the oft-quoted rule.
EDIT: I see that, with the FAQ, this is no longer true. Where were people getting the idea that combat training led to free feats exactly?

Animal Type in the bestiary and FAQ clarification on terminology.
Animal Type says:
Proficient with no armor unless trained for war. (See FAQs and Handle Animal Skill.)
FAQ clarifies.
War trained is actually detailed in the description of the Handle Animal skill. Of course, there it's called "Combat Training." It's one of the "general purpose" trainings you can give an animal.
Animal Companions were additionally clarified to operate based solely on their chart progression, and not gain the free armor proficiencies.
Does that help with what you were looking for?

I fail to see the correlation "Proficient with no armor unless trained for war." isn't the same thing as "Automatically proficient with all [or even any] armor if trained for war".
