Aspiriant to Order of the Gate

The weapon trait is my thing for making a 'fighting wizard' (not that you should be in melee but its something I really really want. The goal will be to get to the Signifier PrC - its not PFS legal atm but rumour has it, that it will be looked at again.

Anyways: Suggestion on School? Traits? Languages and Skills?

Grand Lodge

So, this is a PFS PC?

Grand Lodge

Yeah.

Not sure now if Signifier is out of the picture all together but lets assume that it will be approved as a PFS legal class. To be fair, I am happy playing it to level 12 as a straight wizard who just happens to use a longsword ala Gandalf.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Instead of the trait, you can just use the Bestow Weapon Proficiency spell.

Later, nab a Opalescent White Pyramid Ioun Stone.

Grand Lodge

Adding a language: Infernal. Its practically a must.

The Bestow weapon Prof spell is a drain on the normal 3-5 round fight that PFS combats are made of... and assuming the signifier PrC comes into play later, I do score a weapon proficiency as a class feature. The trait is holding me over... that said? I am open to suggestions on traits.

Armored Kilt will be in order.

Grand Lodge

Actually I was thinking Silk Armour (tailored as a uniform), until level 3 when I pick up arcane armour training... though I may also just try my luck and go with the leather curiass which is AC 2 and arcane failure of 5%

Grand Lodge

Well, you could just wear the Armored Kilt with the Silken Ceremonial Armor.

No ASF.

I'm assuming you'll be in the Cheliax faction. A decent trait for this idea would be Soul Drinker (from the Pathfinder Society Guide; free pdf)

Pathfinder Society Guide wrote:
Soul Drinker: There is a dark hunger in you that rejoices when you or an ally slays a foe. Once per day when an enemy creature is killed, you may, as an immediate action, gain a number of temporary hit points equal to the slain foe’s Hit Dice. These temporary hit points last for 1 minute. This is a supernatural ability.

For the wizard school specialization, if you're focusing on the fighting part, you might want to go transmutation for all the buff spells. Go Enhancement sub school, and you get a +1 to one of your physical stats (your choice which one every time you prepare spells). It's legal for play (I used it with my wizard for a +1 dex to boost AC).

So drop Cha from 9 to 8 and move the point to either Str or con and then use the school power to boost to 14? Interesting.

Looks like the signifier is on the menu soon for PFS play so good news for me.

Why would you take the HK Signifier Prestige Class if you don't want to be a wizard in hell knight armor?

Grand Lodge

It's a starting point.

Isnt that an AMAZING image?

Sure the Magus could also pull that off at level 13 but damn, its a WIZARD in FULL PLATE!

That said it had better be Mithril

Grand Lodge

Arcane Armor Training, Still Spell, and Mithral Hellknight Plate will help.

As a Signifier, you can get down to 0% ASF on mithral Hellknight plate by 8th level (total), between Arcane Armor Mastery (given by the prestige class if you have AAT), Signifier Armor Training, and the reduction from mithral armor. I've been looking into it for myself, as well.

Right now I'm looking at the following for my build:

Spoiler:
Human Wizard
Lawful Neutral

25 PB
Str 18
Dex 14
Con 14
Int 18
Wis 7
Cha 7

HP: 11

Traits: Reactionary, Missing Child (+1 Will save chosen)
Green scorpion familiar
Initiative: +8
Feats: Toughness, Scribe Scroll
Specialization: Teleportation (conjuration); Abjuration and Enchantment chosen as opposition
+2 into Str and Int from human (took dual talented over the feat/skill).

I plan on grabbing the armor proficiencies at 3rd and 5th level so I can meet the prereqs for HKS, then go Nail for the halberd proficiency. I basically plan on being a teleporting summoner with some decent melee and defenses. I figure being able to hop around will reduce the movement penalties from wearing heavier armors rather nicely, and summoning is always awesome. At 7th level, I'll start grabbing the summoning feats (Spell Focus (conjuration), Augment Summoning, and Superior Summons). After that, probably take Improved Initiative just to get my buffs off that much earlier.

For PFS (20 PB), I'd probably drop my Str down to 14 base, and then take Indomitable Faith instead of Missing Child (only taking it since I'm in CotCT).

Probably not the most optimized (should have likely taken Fighter at 1st level for the proficiencies, feat, and HP, and multiclassed into Wizard after that), but it will work fine for the group I'm in.

Conjuration and abjuration seem like the most fitting flavor wise. Abjuration has the sad, sad issue of being one of the most undersupported schools in paizo's books, however. This seems to be a very flavor heavy character; let that inform all your decisions.
