Summon Monster

Rules Questions

Hey everyone. so i'm making a summoner and am going through and figuring out what monsters i want to summon as a backup to my eidolon.

My question is this, when it says in the core rule book that the monsters with the asterisk by them are summoned with the celestial template does that mean that the will be able to be spoken to in celestial? the reason i ask is because most of the first level summon monster monsters are animals so I'm trying to decide between training handle animal or linguistics at level one.

also what are other implications of the creature being summoned with that template.

The Celestial (and Fiendish) templates are found in the "Monster Advancement" section of the Bestiary.
Here's a link to the same section in the PRD.

The two templates don't grant any languages to the creature, so Linguistics wouldn't help in terms of communicating with them.

No. They are still animals, and animals don't have a language, and the template also does not give you a language even if you can already speak.

Cool. thanks for the quick response.
