Nightmare Boots ignite wearer?

Rules Questions

The description of Nightmare Boots (UE page 232) says "Lastly, once per day, when the wearer hits a creature with a melee attack, she can command the boots to ignite. When the boots ignite, all creatures within a 5-foot radius take 2d6 points of fire damage. A DC 13 Reflex saving throw halves the damage."

Does the wearer take the damage? The description would seem to say 'yes' but that seems like a really weird property for a magical item.

Wearer takes the damage. Fire resistance isn't uncommon among those who would be so enamored with the Nightmare to make a magic item inspired by them.

Fair point, that. Thanks.

Fire resistance does not stop you from catching on fire.

The boots don't have a lasting damage effect. They do one burst of fire damage.

More of a "now you know" statement.
