Blood Money and Spell component cost

Rules Questions

Reading over the Blood Money spell, it allows you to pay expensive material components for spells. My question is, can I split the cost between diamond dust and the spell?

IE. If casting Wish, could I spend 4000gp and the rest in strength damage?

Did they convert it in the new books?

The old version had 1 point of strength damage no matter what. Then for the expensive components, XP cost.

The component for Wish is "diamond worth 25,000 gp." If that means "A diamond worth 25,000 gp" then no, you can't split it up. If it means "an amount of diamond worth 25,000 gp" then sure, use the 4,000 gp of diamond you have and pay 1 str damage and 840 XP for the other 21,000 gp worth.

Sorry, they did update it. It's now 1 strength damage per 500 gold pieces.

Then if Wish doesn't require a single diamond, you could take 42 strength damage to make 21,000 gp worth of diamond which, combined with your existing 4,000gp worth would allow you to cast Wish.

Sweet!... though I don't have 42 strength yet :(
