Vital strike help

Advice

so what can be added? power attack? fighter bonuses? feats?
12th lvl fighter 27 str focused on great axe. w focus, greater weapon focus, w spec, greater w. spec, power att, vital strike , improved vital strike, devistating strike, belt thundrous charge, armor of rhino, +1 keen great axe.
help math is driving me crazy.

It's a normal attack, with all bonuses, except the weapon-dice is rolled three times. So calculate everything normally, then add 2d12.

Note that Vital Strike only modifies the Attack Action, which is a specific type of standard action used to make a single attack. As such, it cannot be combined with an attack that's performed as anything other than an Attack Action: you can't use it on a charge, AoO, full-attack, etc.

You can Slow Charge (Charge when Slowed) as that isn't a full rd action any more.

But that's still not the Attack Action, and therefore not eligible for Vital Strike.

the feat states no str, precision and weapon abilities. what about feat and fighter bonuses? like power att, weapon spec.

Just the base weapon dice. No bonuses. Note that the feat says "and other damage bonuses", meaning the restriction goes beyond what's explicitly listed.

Power attack functions like a strength bonus and is not precision damage(Fluff wise it's the exact opposite lol!). Weapon Specialization, Weapon Training, Arcane Strike, Favored Enemy, and Feat Bonuses to damage are not precision damage unless specifically noted in the abilities description.

Edit: Sorry to clarify these are added to the attack as per normal for a standard action attack, however they are not multiplied, only the weapon dice are.

From the official PRD:

Vital Strike (Combat):"You make a single attack that deals significantly more damage than normal.

Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +6.

Benefit: When you use the attack action, you can make one attack at your highest base attack bonus that deals additional damage. Roll the weapon's damage dice for the attack twice and add the results together before adding bonuses from Strength, weapon abilities (such as flaming), precision based damage, and other damage bonuses. These extra weapon damage dice are not multiplied on a critical hit, but are added to the total."

In other words, the only thing Vital Strike adds is the additional damage dice. It doesn't add anything else beyond what the attack would normally get.

Pretty much this. Let me give you a real-game example as to how the feat works, OP.

Let's say I'm a 6th level Mobile Fighter with the Vital Strike feat, and I use a +1 Flaming Burst Greatsword as my weapon to deal damage with, and I have an 18 Strength.

Since I am a +6 BAB, as an attack action (which is listed as a type of Standard Action), I make a single attack against a target at my highest Base Attack Bonus (which is 6), factoring other modifiers to hit.

Now, let's say I swing at the BBEG using Power Attack , and I managed to confirm a critical hit with my Vital Strike attack option. I roll the Greatsword's base weapon damage (which is 2d6), to get 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 points of damage from my weapon. The Vital Strike option says to roll the damage of my weapon twice, so I also get an additional 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 points of damage from the Vital Strike option; however, for simplicity purposes (and proper interpretation purposes), I won't factor that number in until later.

With the other damage bonuses/rolls, I also add in an additional 1d6 ⇒ 6 from the Flaming Property, and due to my successful crit, my Flaming Burst property takes effect, dealing an additional 1d10 ⇒ 4 points of damage. With my Strength bonus of 6 damage, plus 1 from the Weapon Enhancement, plus any Weapon Specialization and Weapon Training bonuses (an extra +3 total), on top of Power Attack modifiers (+6), I then gain an additional +16 raw damage.

So now we include what is part of our critical multiplication: Strength Bonuses, Power Attack Bonuses, Weapon Training, and Weapon Specialization, as well as the BASE damage dice. With these multiplied by the weapon's multiplier, which is a X2, we get a total of 10 + 12 + 2 + 6 + 12 = 42 points of damage from out modifiers.

The other objects that we didn't include in our previous calculation, but are also part of the attack, we now add to the sum of our Critically Multiplied number, which is the Flaming Burst properties, and the Vital Strike bonus damage. Once added, the damage total becomes 42 + 7 + 6 + 4 = 59 points of damage on that attack. (Quite a solid hit, if I do say so myself.)

I hope this helps!
