Liberty's Edge

Awesome Sauce with Extra Gravy.

Grand Lodge

Meh. Nothing draws me to it.

Liberty's Edge

The story doesn't have the same resonance today as it did in the 80s. I doubt kids who see it in November will be reenacting the communist invasion in their back yards like we did as kids.

Nostalgia is the big draw for me.

More like with Extra Cheese...

Why remake this? it isn't relevant any more unless someone has a hidden agenda in stirring up a new cold war with China

Silver Crusade

It just doesn't speak to my perspective of the Cold War like Rocky IV did.

Apollo.... :(

I think they're more likely to pick up the relevant Call of Duty DLC.

North Korea, the country that can even feed its own people, with a GDP the size of North Dakota and a decrepit military that can't even accomplish launching rockets, is going to invade the US?

HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I heard it was going to be China. But since China help the US out with money, they changed it.

Lantern Lodge

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

I love the original movie, but I really don't know how they can put the same emotional response into this version. Back in the days of the Cold War, people really were concerned about the possibility of a foreign power [Russia, specifically] getting the drop on us. It was a legitimate concern.

Nowadays . . . Korea? Really? There's no power on Earth capable of pulling that off right now. The premise falls flat instantly. China? They were our unlikely allies in the original movie, due to the Russians sweeping through them to make the strike at us.

@Mikaze: Yup, CoD DLC is immediately what I thought of, too. Heck, I might even pay for that, so long as I get an emote to shout "WOLVERINES!!!" with every vehicle I take out.

The U.S.S.R. couldn't feed it's people either. I lived in Eastern Europe during the 90s (and spoke to many who did during the 80s) and it was pretty much the same.

But yeah, the premise of North Korea invading us is (currently) ridiculous. Doesn't mean that the movie will be bad. (Doesn't mean it'll be good either. And the original didn't make all that much since, but was entirely awesome.)

And TOZ: can you enjoy a military-based movie? I know my father-in-law can't enjoy most police-based movies and shows because he's a retired officer and cringes at the very large problems with police procedure they always have (among other things, though, strangely (as he noted), he enjoys detective shows, especially British murder mysteries).

This movie is going to be terrible.

And to expand on what CapeCodRPGer said, it was going to be China, with North Korea, invading the U.S. However, the reason they changed it was because Hollywood movies now make a pretty penny in China, and they didn't want to lose that slice of the pie by offending them. Hence the ridiculous premise that North Korea does it all by their lonesome.

Scarab Sages

I do not want to ascribe the filmmakers a concious decision in that direction, nor do I want to ascribe the movie (which I haven't seen and probably won't see too soon) a racist motive, but seeing a seemingly all caucasian cast of 'heroes' in a country so diverse as the US fighting the asian invaders leaves a bit of a bad taste.
Edit: I rewatched the trailer, there seems to be a non-caucasian with the 'heroes' I missed the first time.

Yeah, one of Milius' charms was that he was pretty unapologetic about all his right-wing paranoia - but he did have real writing chops.

Liberty's Edge

Could only make it through about 30 minutes of this ridiculous mess of a movie. Watch the original again and steer clear of this tripe.

Sovereign Court

I've seen it. Ten minutes after, i forgot about it. Yeah. Nothing special whatsoever.
