Meta-rod and the magus

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

How does a magus use a meta-magic rod.
Does he have to put his weapon down?
Can he hold his sword in one hand and cast the spell with the other then grap the rod as a move and still deliver the spell via spellstrike?

I've been looking into a shield-only skirnir, an unarmed hexcrafter, or a cestus kensai, looking for ways to use a metamagic rod and still be able to use somatic components and spell combat. Normally, they can't.

Access to a third limb?

Alchemist, or the whitehaired hex (or whatever it is called) would allow you to do so.

Grand Lodge

Spring-loaded wrist sheath and weapon cords.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

also glove of storing - cast with rod in offhand while the sword is shrunk into the glove of storing, free action to pop the sword out once done casting. free actions to pull out and put away the sword in any given round, so cast as you like.

Third limb sounds good. Thanks everyone. All good ways.

Hexcraft Magus with the Prehensile Hair hex. More limited then a limb from alchemist but you might find it preferable to multitasking.

Another option is to use the rod as your weapon as I believe they count as maces or clubs.
