Advice

Let me start out by saying I like playing characters that are interesting if not effective.

I wanted to build a fighter who more or less carries an armory on him. The idea being that he draws various weapons mid combat and swaps out based on the situation.

For anyone that has the frame of reference I am using the manga character Mousse from Ranma 1/2 as an inspiration

Questions I have:

Is it possible to modify a Handy Haversack to be a robe instead of a sack? The ability to have the weapon I want to draw with quickdraw would seem to be a plus.

What is the best way to armor him up?

Any suggestions on race?

Am I insane for trying this?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Are you limited to what you can use? Something like the Soulknife might be exactly what you are looking for. Re-fluff it as magic instead of psionics (some people have aneurysms) and it allows you to have your main "schtick" be weapons (instead of a single weapon like most classes). It'll cost you a bladeskill to get access to light, one handed and two handed weapons, but you can designate how they look when you form the weapon (as well as P/S/B type of damage). You'd still have to carry a crossbow or bow for ranged attacks though.

Soulknife

There are other options/archtypes for the class but they aren't available on the site. Honestly though if you are planning on regularly do some of these "off the wall" concepts the pdfs from Dreamscarred Press are well worth the price though you might want to look at the kickstarter they are working on (look at the compatible products forum, it gets regular posts since its start) as it will be a combination of the books and some newer stuff once they get it all settled.

I highly recommend basing your idea off of the gauntlets of the weapon master from Ultimate Equipment, as it more accurately reflects what you're going for in the character.

GotWM Description:
These gauntlets come in a variety of forms. Some are mostly leather with small steel plates, and are suited for fine swordplay. Others are fully articulated plate favored by knights in full plate. On command, the wearer of the gauntlet can store a single weapon he is holding in the gauntlets. When he does so, a graven image of the weapon appears on the gauntlet’s plates. The wearer can store up to 10 weapons in the gauntlets in this manner. Retrieving a weapon requires the wearer to touch the image of the weapon he wants. Doing so is a swift action. When a weapon is retrieved, it appears in the hands of the wearer and any weapons the wearer had in his hands is stored in the gauntlets. If there is no room in the gauntlet for the weapons the wearer is holding, those weapons are dropped. The gauntlets can only store weapons; other items cannot be placed in the gauntlet.

Furthermore, three times per day on command, the gloves affect the wearer as the greater heroism spell.

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I ran a Metal Oracle in a RotRL game several months back, and got a lot of mileage out of the Iron Weapon revelation. My inspiration came from the anime "Sacred Blacksmith."

Now, you won't be hot-swapping between 4 or 5 different weapon types during a combat, but you will pretty much have whatever weapon you need, any time you need it. Well, Simple and Martial melee weapons in any case. I generally swapped between a greatsword, an earthbreaker, and a ranseur.

This option probably isn't exactly what you want, but it does mean you're not reliant on any magic items or other gear in order to pull off your signature stunt.
